Your control system is plagued by quick fixes. How can you ensure long-term efficiency?

Frequent quick fixes in your control system may seem like a solution, but for long-term efficiency, a strategic overhaul is necessary. Consider these steps:

- Analyze recurring issues to identify underlying causes rather than repeatedly addressing symptoms.

- Implement robust training for staff to ensure consistent use and maintenance of the system.

- Invest in technology upgrades that align with your long-term operational goals and scalability needs.

Have strategies that have worked for you in moving beyond quick fixes? Share your experience.

Engaged with people who used the system and hear what is working and what is not. Do a process map to identify where are ineffective. Then redesign with people who use the system. Focus on user experience redesign the process with control in place to reduce human error. Make system changes and tested. If doesn’t achieve the intended process have the disgusting to address issues or identify new solutions. When process design correctly there should be minimum training, is simple and user intuitive

In my experience while worked with many industrial facilities immediate quick fixes during SteadyState operation is nothing new to sustain immediate safety and availability of the assets. However following shall be ensured for long term sustainable strategy: - Preform systematic investigation and RCAs if required involving system vendor. - Gaps in Lifecycle management of such COTS items initiates such pain which need to be formulated to sustain for long term. - Single source partners/vendors always remain one of the pain area which shall be tackled with proper strategy including long-term service agreements, reliable support, and updates or patches that contribute to overall system health. Addressing these areas will help to sustain better

Quick fixes are crucial to keep business and productivity moving. However these fixes must always be documented and tracked. Reviewing these fixes monthly is important to make sure other aspects were not affected, to ensure it was the bestnsolution or if it needs to be adjust, changed or additional aditions are needed to improve the quick fix for a more public use. All fixes and updates need to be distributed to individuals for the quick fix immediately but monthly updates to technical documentation, for training documents and knowledge base is also very crucial to the success.
