The collaboration of geoscientists and petroleum (reservoir) engineers especially in subsurface characterisation studies is very crucial to quantify recoverable reserves as well as in reservoir management practices. It all depends on the interplay between the geological understanding of geoscientists (geologists) confirming the static inplace and reservoir engineers understanding based on dynamic simulation study to come up with several realisations in maximising the EUR with a good confidence.

🔶🔷Uniting geologists and engineers is like blending coffee and milk—it takes effort, but the results are worth it. Start by setting common goals; everyone loves a shared win. Sprinkle in some cross-training so each side appreciates the other's expertise (bonus: fewer "rock jokes"). Add integrated workflows—tech tools that let them share data and decisions seamlessly. Finally, stir it all together with regular communication. Collaboration isn’t magic; it’s teamwork brewed just right. How do you make collaboration smoother in your field?

Give them the technology that allows them to work together. IPM integrates the static structural geological model with the dynamic reservoir model. This way we can ensure use data consistency, utilise constrained model building and model matching to improve history matching and reduce reservoir uncertainty.

📊Through techniques like nodal analysis and material balance, reservoir engineers fine-tune production strategies. They analyse production data, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions to enhance overall reservoir performance. 📊The nodal analysis method employs single or multiphase flow correlations, as well as correlations developed for the various components of reservoir, well completion, and surface equipment systems to calculate the pressure loss associated with each component in the system.

Maximizing reservoir performance is highly dependent on good understanding of the reservoirs internal architecture, sweep pattern, and hydrocarbon contact movements. 1. Define clear goal in terms of ‘realistic’ optimization target (% increase in production) by xxx months. 2. Constitute an integrated team with clear leadership, agreed scope and roles. Ensure all key subsurface and surface disciplines are represented. 3. Deploy Integrated workflow that fosters collaboration. Joint screening of the reservoirs to align on reservoirs to be studied and methodology. 4. Hold Joint technical assurance with both RE and Geologist participating. 5. Effective team meeting focusing on the integrated goal not on silos. 6. Recognize both for good work.

This aged-long discuss is one that can be easily addressed by data democratization, that is, simply having all subsurface discipline speaking to the same and integrated interpretation of subsurface data, as well as having a shared understanding of the asset(s)/project(s) in question to achieve maximum reservoir performance. This democratized data is, simply, all well and reservoir information made easily accessible to the diverse team working towards the same goal.

The key is respect to each other knowledge. Then share knowledge between the disciplines in order to get all pieces of the puzzle understood. Successful petroleum engineer has to understand the subsurface complexity and successful geologist has to understand the different aspects of operation. Both parties have to ask a lot of questions to learn. Understanding the point of view of each other will lead to deliver the goal. The manager or team lead will work like a regisseur to deliver a successful story.
