  • Promote open dialogue: Encourage team members to voice concerns and listen actively to foster mutual understanding.

If we talk about Oil and Gas Exploration projects, as the information is very scarce, it is quite critical to manage the team operations. It is very important to have a constructive environment to reduce the frequency of conflicts be it based on technical aspects or managerial, the integrated team should have clear set of defined goals and responsibilities.

Managing conflicts in a diverse team starts with creating an open, respectful environment where everyone feels heard. I’d focus on understanding the root cause of the conflict, as misunderstandings or differing perspectives often drive tension. Encouraging the team to focus on shared goals and practicing empathy can help shift attention from differences to collaboration. Clear guidelines for addressing disagreements respectfully are essential to keep things constructive. If necessary, I’d step in as a neutral mediator to guide conversations toward fair resolutions. By fostering trust and leveraging the team’s diversity as a strength, conflicts can lead to more creative and effective solutions🦋

Healthy tension aka conflict can be a catalyst to achieving high performance. Team members should feel comfortable challenging each other as long as it’s done fairly. It’s the manager’s job to mediate if the conflict or tension becomes unhealthy or offensive. This type of conflict needs to be addressed quickly or will most certainly cause division and hinder performance.

It's very important to understand that it is almost impossible to have two or more people in agreement with everything at all times and situations. In fact it is abnormal not to have conflict among a diverse team. This is why as a team leader, one should be ready to always listen, be assertive, Lead by example through acknowledgement and respect of personal boundaries and the team needs remind at all time to always focus on the success of the team's goal and efforts on satisfying individual goal and ego should be pointed out and discouraged at all times.
