How do you adapt and customize your integrated marketing campaigns for different markets and cultures?

Remember, people don't buy because they understand what your product can do - they buy because they believe you understand **them**.

The question is more how do I become a global marketer? Without sounding too trite, move to the market in which you want access to. If this is not practical, please partner with someone in market. Do not go alone. You don't know what you will never know not being immersed in that market. The data tells a story but doesn't tell the whole story. Entering global markets is full of landmines and ruined careers. Tread carefully and thoughtfully. Lastly, there is an inherent lack of trust of foreigners parachuting into a market without having had feet on the ground and having developed authentic and genuine relationships.

Agreeing 100% with @Zach Piester's point; you can only truly understand your audience if you live there and experience (as much as is possible) the sounds, sights, smells, pressures and joys of their world - and why your product / service is useful to them.

Not sure which channels to start with? Start with conducting a competitive analysis to see what your competition is leveraging, digging into how they are performing on each channel + platform as well as areas of opportunity for your company to find a lane of it's own.

As Ashley Watts points out below, a competitive analysis a great start. What works in 1 market is likely not to work in another. We work predominantly in the US and Southeast Asia. Collectively the US is consistent across traditional channels. In SE Asia, each country is unique. Thailand is messaging app heavy in utilizing Line, WhatsApp and Facebook. Philippines is almost exclusively FB and FB messenger. LinkedIn is great across most countries to connect, but to have an actual conversation, you need to be present on the apps. Likewise going old school and actually seeing people in person. Hosting a dinner, meetup or private event is an effective way to connect and engage with your audience.

This is a no brainer but if you don't truly know the market, people, practices and cultural context and nuance, this wont work. Partner with someone who knows all of the above. Then and only then create content.

Having a testing process as part of your roadmap will make sure it's an ongoing process that addresses any issues across channels and stakeholders. Being able to address issues quickly will be difference of a successful product or not.

This is one of the most critical steps to take with an integrated marketing campaign. Measuring your progress against your goals and KPIs is extremely important, as well as what you do with that data. Once you analyze the performance (should be anywhere from daily to monthly, depending on your channels), start with making 1 adjustment based on the findings. Don't forget to write down what you adjusted and why for future reference!

Localize- by self immersion or partner with someone in market Be patient Build relationships Be aware of the history of the market in which you're entering. Colonial history runs deep in some markets. Be aware and respectful. Just because you're from X and work with Y, doesn't mean anything. Take the time to learn and adjust.
