The “Listen and Engage” step really resonates with me. It’s important to have quantitative data to back up any insights you learn about your consumer, whether custom research or syndicated data, but - nothing can replace the power of hearing consumer’s stories. It could be as simple as a shopper intercept in-store. When it comes to 1-on-1 interviews though, I can still remember the faces of some of the consumers we surveyed years ago as they shared their needs and expectations. It really helps you remove yourself as a sample of one, and put yourself in the shoes of the actual consumer to understand their motivations. These stories have staying power when you’re commercializing insights internally.
