America has announced a $40 billion bailout for Argentina - that's more than the entire annual USAID budget. So much for saving taxpayer money by cutting development programs. Instead of saving lives and building alliances around the world, we’re now backing only Argentina. It’s hard to see the strategic logic in that shift. https://lnkd.in/eCrnKSxS

The Alliance for American Leadership was just featured in ABC News (again)! “Our work didn’t end when they walked us out the door.” Yesterday, ABC heard from former USAID Senior Policy Advisor Tina L. Balin who is one of many public servants whose service was disrupted by the USAID shutdown. Like many members of the Alliance for American Leadership, Tina continued her work on foreign aid despite the uncertainty - becoming the Policy Director at the Alliance. Costing less than 1% of the federal budget, foreign assistance remains one of the most effective tools for advancing U.S. interests and values around the world. As Executive Director Asher Moss said, "We care about this from the lens of it being an issue that matters, and of wanting America to do the right thing, America to be secure, and America to lead on the world stage." Our nonpartisan coalition is committed to working to restore foreign assistance, united by the belief that US global strength depends on not just military strength but leadership with purpuse, integrity and impact. Following my announcement about joining the Board of Advisors for the Alliance for American Leadership (A4AL) and serving as Chair of the Diplomacy, Development, Humanitarian Aid, and Public Health Committee, I want to highlight a clear example of where #Nursing, #Advocacy, and #NationalSecurity converge: the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). For more than two decades, #PEPFAR has been one of the most successful global health initiatives in history: - It has #saved over 25 million lives since its launch in 2003. - It provides #lifesaving antiretroviral therapy to 20 million people. - It has #reduced new HIV infections by more than 50% in many countries. - It supports #training and #infrastructure that strengthens global health systems far beyond HIV. But here’s the piece often missing from the conversation: PEPFAR is not just #GlobalHealth policy—it is national security #policy. When nations are devastated by disease, #instability follows. Fragile health systems and unchecked #epidemics create conditions that weaken #economies, fuel migration crises, and open space for extremist groups to take hold. U.S. military leaders and foreign policy experts have consistently warned that global health #investments like PEPFAR are #strategic tools for #stability, #security, and #diplomacy. And who is at the center of PEPFAR’s success? #Nurses. From delivering frontline care and prevention to #leading public health campaigns, #training health workers, and building #trust in communities, nurses are the #backbone of this achievement. Yet, too often, our voices are absent from policy tables where these programs are debated and funded. As nurses, we know #prevention is always more effective—and less costly—than crisis #response. The same principle applies #globally. By advocating for sustained investments in PEPFAR and similar programs, nurses are not only advancing health equity but also strengthening U.S. national security and protecting global stability. My call to action: Nurses and health professionals must step forward to frame foreign aid and global health not as charity, but as strategic national investments. We need more #nurse #leaders #shaping the narrative, #testifying before policymakers, and #ensuring that programs like PEPFAR remain strong. Because nurses don’t just deliver care—we define it. #NurseVoice #NurseAdvocacy #GlobalLeadership #NationalSecurity

I’m honored to share that I have been appointed to the Board of Advisors for the Alliance for American Leadership (A4AL) and will serve as #Chair of the Diplomacy, Development, Humanitarian Aid, and Public Health (DDHAPH) Committee. This role represents a unique #opportunity to bring the voice of #nursing to the international stage, ensuring that #nurses are not only part of the conversation but helping to shape #solutions at the intersection of #Health, #HumanitarianResponse, and #GlobalPolicy. Too often, #ForeignAid is misunderstood as charity. While I believe deeply that helping our neighbors—both next door and across the globe—is a #moral obligation, it is also so much more. Foreign aid is: - A #strategic national #investment that strengthens global health systems. - A driver of #stability and #security that reduces conflict and strengthens alliances. - A force multiplier that pays #dividends for #NationalSecurity and global wellbeing. As nurses, we know that #prevention is always better than crisis #response—and the same is true in #Diplomacy, #HumanitarianAid, and #Development. This appointment is an opportunity to elevate nurse #leadership where it matters most: in shaping how we invest in health, equity, and security on a #global scale. Call to Action: There are many ways to be part of this fight. If you are interested in #helping advance this mission—through #policy, #advocacy, #education, or #partnership—I encourage you to reach out. Together, we can ensure nurses lead not only at the bedside, but on the world stage. Nurses don’t just deliver care—we define it. #NurseVoice #NurseAdvocacy #GlobalLeadership #A4AL

Now that we are in government shutdown, at Aid on the Hill we are focused on ensuring that any spending bill is passed with assurances against further rescissions, that is when the Executive branch claws back funding Congress has passed into law. 📢 Thank you to Senator Collins for her public support of the Government Accountability Office's standing to sue the administration to stop pocket rescissions. 📢 Senator Murkowski's framework for averting a government shutdown also has provisions to block "illegal pocket rescissions." 📢 Minority Leader Schumer has drawn a line that spending bills must protect the Congressional power of the purse. Call your reps this week - 202-224-3121 - and ask them to protect foreign aid funding! The consequences of further cuts are deadly.

  • We shared this briefing with over 1,000 congressional staffers this morning. Let's keep Congress informed - and focused on the need to restore international assistance and American leadership.

Shutdown Update Day One: Up to 750,000 Federal Employees Furloughed; Rescission of International Assistance Deepens Global Power Vacuum A version of this briefing was shared with over 1,000 key policymakers on the Hill this morning. Support our work to keep Congress informed and restore foreign aid at https://lnkd.in/emf_uhUG Furloughs: The Congressional Budget Office estimates that roughly 750,000 federal employees could be furloughed each day of a shutdown, with the total daily cost of their compensation at roughly $400 million, according to the Office of Personnel Management. Job Losses: These furloughs hit the federal workforce after significant cuts earlier this year. 20,409 American workers and contractors spread across all 50 states lost their jobs due to the USAID shutdown. Power Vacuum: Prior to the shutdown, the White House rescinded critical international assistance funds that support U.S. engagement in crisis countries like Sudan. These cuts will severely limit America’s ability to favorably shape outcomes, contain threats, and compete strategically against our adversaries. Recommendation: The shutdown offers a unique opportunity for Members of Congress to pressure the administration to respect Congress’ authority over the budget process. Yesterday, Senator Susan Collins called on the GAO to sue the Administration under the Budget Control Act of 1974 for illegally impounding funds through pocket rescissions. Other Members of Congress should publicly echo her call for Congressional authority over the budget process. Similarly, Senator Lisa Murkowski’s framework for averting a government shutdown released this month included provisions to block what she termed Trump’s “illegal pocket rescission.” Democrats echoed this concern in their bill, explicitly opposing the administration’s attempt to bypass Congress. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer underscored the issue in a Monday meeting with Trump and other top leaders, describing the president’s funding maneuvers as “the other issue that was sharply drawn” during the Oval Office talks. The Impact of Aid Cuts: Sudan offers a devastating example of the impact of pocket rescissions and international assistance cuts. With over 750,000 civilians starving and 5 million fleeing across borders, chaos is overtaking a key region beside a major trade route. As America retreats, adversaries like China, Russia, and Iran are stepping in, expanding influence, fueling extremism, and driving mass migration. Stand Up for American Leadership: The Alliance for American Leadership urges Congress to respond proactively to the challenges of the pocket rescission of international assistance funds.

Senior Policy Advisor @ Alliance for American Leadership | International Politics @ Georgetown

This week marked my last week as Policy Director at the Alliance for American Leadership (A4AL). While I will continue my work in an advisory role, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the experience. I'm happy to have contributed to successful bipartisan Congressional advocacy for international assistance, including protecting $400 million from PEPFAR cuts. To see A4AL grow over the past several months has been a genuine pleasure, and I wish Rina Bruk Levy all the best as she takes on the Policy Directorship. I am particularly grateful to Asher Moss for his leadership: His dedication as Executive Director was exemplary as the organization carried out its policy advocacy. Thank you to Nicole Rodgers as well for her work as Chief of Staff. I also wanted to recognize Joel Stennett, Cam Morales, Daniel Suarez, Adam Nadifi, Sneha Srivatsa and everyone on the Policy Team for their support throughout my tenure.

Executive Director at the Alliance for American Leadership

This weekend, the Alliance for American Leadership is holding a waterfront fundraiser in Burke, VA! And you're invited! Hosted by Jeff Wilklow and Sally Wilklow 9330 Raintree Rd, Burke, VA 22015 Sunday, September 28th, 4-6 pm RSVP here: https://lnkd.in/eSf82TRj This is a joint fundraiser for Rachna Sizemore Heizer and the Alliance for American Leadership, a coalition created to rebuild support for international assistance. You may have seen our work in ABC News, which covered our endorsement of James Walkinshaw just days before his election victory. Now, we are proud to endorse Rachna Sizemore Heizer for Braddock Supervisor. In an extraordinary commitment, she is dedicating half of all proceeds from this event to strengthen A4AL’s fight for global aid as a tool for peace. The stakes could not be higher. A study in the Lancet found that up to 14 million people could lose their lives unless we rebuild global health, food security, and other international assistance programs. We need to win. And leaders like Rachna are essential to making that happen. Please join us on September 28!
