About us

Access Youth Academy is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that inspires underprivileged youth to excel via a program combining academics, physical fitness and the sport of squash, and community service. Its vision is to provide opportunities for enrichment and excellence to motivated, low-income youth so that they may fulfill their potential. Access Youth Academy provides after school enrichment programming for young people in San Diego that come from families that qualify for "Free or Reduced Lunch" Title One Federal assistance. Program services include specialized academic tutoring, mentoring, physical fitness and sport of squash training, and organization of community service projects. Squash is a high-speed racquet sport played by two players in a four-walled court with a small, hollow rubber ball. • 🎙️ NEW EPISODE: Access Granted Podcast We're excited to share our conversation with Susan Taylor, a veteran TV news anchor whose career journey is truly inspiring. From covering major events to navigating a dramatic five-hour hostage negotiation, Susan's story demonstrates resilience and quick thinking under pressure. Now at Scripps Health, Susan channels her storytelling expertise into healthcare content, making complex medical advances accessible to patients and families. Her career transition shows how skills transfer across industries when driven by purpose. What resonates most with our Access Youth Academy mission is Susan's genuine passion for supporting underserved youth. She understands our 14-year commitment model and shares our excitement about the potential for our students to compete when squash becomes an Olympic sport in 2028.
