#COP30 is just around the corner. Here's what we're wanting to see at the talks in Belém to advance corporate accountability for nature: ✅ Turning commitments into action: going beyond pledges to showing clear, actionable implementation is happening. ✅ Accountability at the heart: real systems for monitoring, verifying and enforcing corporate action on nature. ✅ Climate and nature interlinked: tackling the climate and nature crises together. ✅ Civil society leaders and Indigenous groups at the forefront, shaping the COP agenda. Strengthening the corporate accountability ecosystem for nature by empowering a global web of accountability actors
About us
The Accountability Accelerator is a global collaborative of philanthropists and practitioners focused on creating a comprehensive accountability ecosystem for nature that scales and accelerates corporate action. Accountability is an ecosystem of actors and actions that includes incentives for companies to take the first steps towards a nature-positive economy. The tighter and more coordinated the accountability web, the fewer opportunities for inaction and greenwashing. Companies and governments have a crucial role to play and must be engaged in the process. To achieve our mission, diverse stakeholders must work together, supported by a multi-layered accountability architecture with mutually reinforcing and complementary approaches leveraging data & standards, financial institutions, campaigns, and a range of legal measures. Combined, these levers can help shift action on nature from voluntary to mandatory.

🚀 We’re evolving! The Global Commons Alliance is reshaping its membership structure for a new era of global commons stewardship and stronger collaboration toward a just world on a safe planet. 👇 Today’s social, economic, and political environment requires a holistic Alliance to drive systems change through collective intelligence that addresses the root-causes of our escalating ecological and climate crises, and delivers across earth system domains. That’s why we’re evolving our structure to allow members to play a greater role in setting the Alliance’s strategic direction and to collaborate more deeply across four high-priority areas: science, culture, governance, and economy. [Read more about that here: https://lnkd.in/evpkqmzz] 🌏🤝 Margarita Astralaga, Chair of the Global Commons Alliance, said: “The evolution of the Global Commons Alliance reflects our core belief that no single organization can solve the crises we face alone. Only collective action, rooted in science and solidarity, will safeguard our global commons. Despite society feeling divided, we all share something in common — the absolute necessity for a just world, on a safe planet.” As a member of the Global Commons Alliance you can play a critical role in protecting and restoring the global commons for all people, now. 👉 Find out more about the Alliance on our revamped website GlobalCommonsAlliance.org or read about the evolution here: https://lnkd.in/evpkqmzz Will Tucker Sebastian Schienle Science Based Targets Network (SBTN) #SystemsChangeLab Earth Commission Accountability Accelerator #EarthHQ #GlobalCommons #SafeAndJust #SystemsChange Maria Alejandra Piazzolla Clare Saxon Ghauri

🌿 A new chapter for #accountability I still remember sitting in the basement of the World Economic Forum during Covid in August 2019, talking about how we could close the gap between corporate commitments and real change for nature. A few months later, in April 2020, we brought together over 200 stakeholders for a week-long virtual workshop to explore what accountability really means, and how we might serve as the connective tissue in a sometimes confusing landscape. That seed became the Accountability Accelerator, one of the original components of the Global Commons Alliance, and over the past four years, it has grown from a start-up idea into a funder, convener, and thought partner helping to build a just and impactful accountability ecosystem for nature. Today, we’re marking an important milestone: the Accelerator is now independent, while remaining a proud and connected member of the GCA family. This independence gives us the flexibility to deepen our catalytic role: getting small but strategic funds to projects in both the Global South and Global North, and helping link the many actors working toward the same goal of enabling accountability for corporate impacts on nature. At a time when regulations are being rolled back in parts of the US and Europe, accountability for corporate action is more vital than ever. Companies that stay true to their commitments need recognition and support—and those that retreat must face real consequences. I’m very proud of how far we’ve come, and even more hopeful about what’s ahead. The need for accountability isn’t going away; it’s growing. And with the Accelerator’s independence, we’re better placed than ever to meet it. 👉 Learn more in our 2024 Impact Report: https://lnkd.in/efGU9Nvy 🔗 And read about the Global Commons Alliance’s evolution: https://lnkd.in/evpkqmzz #AccountabilityAccelerator #GlobalCommons #SafeAndJust #NaturePositive
📢 A new era of collaboration As one of five original components of the Global Commons Alliance, the Accountability Accelerator is proud to have worked as part of this Alliance for the past four years alongside other entities working to protect and restore our global commons. In this time, we have grown from a start-up initiative into a funder, thought leader, and ecosystem-builder that in 2024 awarded over $2 million in strategic grants, convened more than 300 stakeholders across 20 counties, and launched the first validation service for science-based targets for nature. Now, we mark the start of a new era of collaboration with the Global Commons Alliance, which is evolving to become a holistic alliance comprising more diverse actors with the shared mission to safeguard and restore Earth’s life-support systems, equitably, now. As an independent entity, the Accountability Accelerator becomes one of the Alliance’s new members, where we will continue to play a vital role in driving action to stop and reverse corporate harms to nature through an impactful and just accountability ecosystem. 📖 Read the Accountability Accelerator's 2024 Impact Report and learn about how we're scaling corporate accountability for nature: https://lnkd.in/efGU9Nvy 🔗 Read more about the Global Commons Alliance’s evolution here: https://lnkd.in/evpkqmzz #AccountabilityAccelerator #GlobalCommons #SafeAndJust
