  • 🔙 #FlashbackFriday We’re looking back at the award-nominated Commotion Creek Bridge project near Chetwynd, BC—a standout example of complex bridge design driven by urgency and collaboration. After a 2016 rain event caused a major washout of Highway 97 and adjacent railway infrastructure, Allnorth was engaged by the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MOTI) to lead the replacement of damaged culverts with a permanent crossing solution. Our team led conceptual and detailed design, exploring multiple bridge options and delivering a 38.4 m clear-span, joint-free bridge structure that minimized future maintenance and construction disruption. With deep coordination across disciplines, we also provided cost estimating, tender documentation, and served as MOTI’s on-site Ministry Representative throughout construction. This technically challenging project was nominated by MOTI for an ACEC-BC award in recognition of design excellence and effective delivery under demanding conditions. • Paddles Up! 🌊🛶 What better way to strengthen team connections than with a bit of salt air and shared adventure? Our Nanaimo team and their families recently set out on their 4th annual kayaking trip, circumnavigating Saysutshun (Newcastle Island Marine Park) and Protection Island in Nanaimo Harbour. This year’s paddle served up a few extra challenges with higher winds and rollers, plus a super low tide that offered plenty of tidepools and beach to explore. The crew opted to portage between the islands for some welcome relief—proof of just how low that tide was! With paddlers ranging from first-timers to seasoned pros, everyone had a blast spotting wildlife, soaking in the coastal scenery, and enjoying a delicious BBQ lunch served up by our very own Ryan Sinclair. (Word is Ryan’s wife’s co-workers want in next year—she’s also an engineer, so we say bring it on!) Here’s to team spirit, tidal adventures, and a tradition that keeps getting better every year. #Allnorth #OneTeam #AllnorthAdventures #KayakLife #NanaimoHarbour #EmployeeExperience #NewcastleIsland #Saysutshun

  • 🔙 #FlashbackFriday In 2004, Allnorth was called to support development of the Pogo Mine in Alaska, then owned in part by Teck. What began as an urgent border scramble facilitated by CEO Darby Kreitz to secure work visas quickly turned into months of boots-on-the-ground engineering in some of the harshest conditions imaginable. The team—Richard Fairservice (Civil Designer), James Hepburn (Survey Project Manager), and Brad Smith (Surveyor), all still with Allnorth today—arrived on site to take over survey and design responsibilities from a previous firm. Starting with layout and design of a 50-mile access road, they worked rapidly, with road alignments being designed overnight and staked the next day. As confidence in Allnorth grew, so did our role. We went on to perform: • Powerline staking • Plant site and permanent camp layout • Design of the treatment plant pad and diversion ditch • Volume tracking to monitor contractor progress • QA of critical infrastructure, including foundations for the ball mill (anchored with 2.5” diameter bolts up to 8’ long on foundations as high as 20’) The worksite presented unique engineering challenges—from permafrost heaving beneath drilling rigs to the need to bolt equipment directly to the frozen ground just to keep it functioning. This project marked the start of many “remote adventures” for our team—what Richard affectionately calls “part of the Allnorth vacation plan.” Photos courtesy of Richard Fairservice. #Allnorth #PogoMine #EngineeringInTheNorth #FlashbackFriday #RemoteEngineering #PermafrostChallenges #SurveyLIfe

  • Last night, Ryan Buye and Scott Neurauter (pictured with Allison Daniels, Council Member of Whitecap Dakota Nation) were proud to represent our team as dignitaries in the grand entry at the 2nd Annual Whitecap Dakota Nation Powwow. Being invited to participate was a true honour and a reflection of our strong, 10-year partnership with the community. Congratulations to Chief Darcy Bear, Councillors and everyone involved in organizing another incredible celebration of culture, tradition, and community. We’re grateful to be part of it.
