Trainee Spotlight alert!!!
Meet Temitayo Ogundimu, a second-year MSc student in the Isewon Group at Covenant University, Nigeria. A native of Ogun State, Temitayo’s passion for understanding malaria and arboviral vectors has grown since beginning his MSc in Bioinformatics under the prestigious World Bank CApIC-ACE Scholarship.
Temitayo actively supports colleagues in the Insectary Laboratory at Covenant University, where he contributes to both laboratory experiments and computational analyses. His work spans insecticide resistance studies and the identification of novel genetic markers that can inform proactive vector control strategies.
For his MSc research, Temitayo is leveraging machine learning models to predict drug resistance in malaria parasite strains, combining computational precision with biological insight.
Driven by a strong belief in interdisciplinary research, Temitayo sees collaboration across scientific fields as the cornerstone of innovative discoveries. His research interests include applying genome-wide association studies (GWAS)and machine learning (ML) to better understand the ecology of vector-borne diseases.
Looking ahead, Temitayo aspires to pursue a PhD in Biological Sciences, with the goal of becoming a research scientistand establishing a biotech hub to mentor the next generation of African scientists. Ultimately, he aims to contribute to the eradication of infectious diseases in Africa and to make African genomic data more accessible and openly available for global research.
