Today we announced finalists for the 5th Annual Anthem Awards! Part of The Webby Awards family, The Anthem Awards honor digital creativity that makes life better, from public service campaigns to educational media to nonprofit storytelling. It’s been an incredibly disorienting year for people in this space. Funding is uncertain, teams are stretched thin, and people who’ve dedicated their lives to making the world better are finding themselves under attack, or just exhausted. Yet from all that pressure, some truly remarkable work is being made. Like many new parents, I'm hyper-focused on the stories and screens my kid is absorbing. So much worldview is shaped by the media in front of them, and they get totally sucked in. It’s harder than I ever could've imagined to find educational content that’s compelling enough to keep their attention. This Anthem finalist from Sesame Workshop and Andrew Garfield does this beautifully, helping children understand grief with grace. In a moment when public broadcasting and nonprofit media are facing brutal cuts and extreme uncertainty, it's worth remembering that we need this kind of work in the world. We need to support it, we need to fund it, and we need to celebrate the people making it. Each Anthem category has two awards, one judged by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, and the other voted on by the community.
