The Second Global Activism Convening in Salvador, Brazil was absolutely mesmerizing! Being surrounded by visionaries like Kumi Naidoo, Erika Hilton, Shahidul Alam, and Favianna Rodriguez reminded us once again that art isn’t just a reflection of change; it’s the heartbeat that drives it. At ArtLords, we’re honored to be part of this powerful global dialogue; exhibiting our erased mural as a testament to resilience, and leading a vital session on ending gender apartheid in Afghanistan. Art connects. Art resists. Art heals. #GlobalArtivism #ArtLords #GenderApartheid #Afghanistan #Artivism #ArtistsAtRisk #SalvadorBrazil #PowerOfArt

ArtLords — a collective of self-styled “artivists” — creates street art in Afghanistan and around the world.
About us
ArtLords, a movement of self-styled “artivists,” champions the cause of defending artistic freedom and democracy through street art in Afghanistan and across the world. We wield art as a powerful instrument to educate, engage communities, and foster shared experiences. ArtLords confronts challenging social and political issues head-on, embracing art’s transformative power to address these concerns. At the core of our mission lies a deep-seated vision for healing, peace, and the steadfast support of democratic values and artistic expression. Our vision extends beyond borders, aspiring for a world where peace reigns supreme, and every individual is valued and treated with equality, transcending gender, ethnicity, or religious affiliations. In this world, freedom and democracy are not just ideals, but the bedrock of society, ensuring that every voice is heard and every life is cherished. We champion the universal language of art as a powerful catalyst for healing, unity, and inspiration—empowering the silenced voices and mirroring the societal challenges that sculpt our global community. Through our endeavors, we aim to ignite a global dialogue that fosters understanding, respect, and the unwavering pursuit of freedom and democratic values. This is the essence of our vision: to harness the transformative power of art in building a future where peace, freedom, and democracy flourish in every corner of the world.

“I Remember Everything” — painted live in Nashville by Ali Hashemi of ArtLords, as part of a community art event organized by the John Prine Foundation. Inspired by John Prine’s final song, this mural celebrates memory, migration, and freedom. From the open cage and flying birds to the rooted home, every brushstroke tells a story of love, loss, and resilience.

We may live far from our land, but through art and dialogue, we rebuild the bridges that exile and invaders once tried to burn. We are transforming exile into unity, and loss into light. #Afghandiaspora Conference Geneva DEMAC - Diaspora Emergency Action & Coordination #ArtLords

It was a space to feel, share, and connect — through powerful art interventions by ArtLords, heartfelt poem readings, live-music from Afghanistan, and our Culture & Connections corner. Around 80 participants joined in to celebrate the resilience and creativity of Afghan civil society — proving once again that, despite the challenges, hope and commitment continue to cross borders. Omaid Sharifi on how to mainstream artivism and make public the heartbeat of every initiative.
Turning Art into the Heartbeat of Change From the blast walls of Kabul to the streets of Manhattan and now Geneva, Omaid Sharifi, founder of ArtLords, is showing how a brush and a bucket of paint can spark dialogue, heal wounds, and reclaim public space. Speaking at a mural painting event this week, Sharifi shared how artivism - the fusion of art and activism - can transform fear into hope and communities into co-creators of change. What began in 2014 as a grassroots movement in Kabul has grown into a global network spanning 20+ countries and 2,500 murals, empowering artists, amplifying Afghan women’s voices, and promoting healing through creativity. As Sharifi reminds, “Art should not just follow change - it should lead it.” Omaid Sharifi #ArtLords #Artivism #OmaidSharifi #ArtForChange #IStandWithYou
