At 20 million km away from Earth, angular error is the real constraint for our deep space comms stack. Pointing is what makes staying connected to a spacecraft especially challenging. Any gain comes at the cost of precision. DS‐2’s high-gain antenna has a 0.4° beam. Miss that cone, and the link drops, no matter how strong the signal is. Hitting the 0.4° window from a spinning spacecraft in deep space demands tight coordination between RF, GNC, and software. This is orbital geometry, timing, dynamics, and signal processing, stacked. And we’re flying it without DSN.

Our second deep space mission, DeepSpace-2, is going to be the first private landing on a body outside the planetary gravity well. We're canvassing a metallic near-Earth asteroid for mining viability. Today's shop update features our first pieces of DS-2 merch. Let's go mine some asteroids!
