Mining and deflecting asteroids have more in common than you’d think. This week on Roid Rage, Planetary Defense Scientist Brent and Graduate Researcher Adrienne join us to talk mission design and asteroid disruption. We mine asteroids
About us
AstroForge is a deep-space mining company on a mission to extract valuable metals from asteroids. By bringing space resources into Earth's supply chain, we're aiming to reduce the need for traditional terrestrial mining methods and explore a more sustainable future - one mission at a time.

What happens if a spacecraft doesn’t know where it’s pointed? This week on Roid Rage, we break down how DeepSpace‑2’s star trackers give us precise attitude knowledge, enabling pointing, solar power, and burns in deep space. I spent a good chunk of last week representing AstroForge at #UpSummit. Amazing time share our mission and connecting with incredible people on their own missions. My most inspiring moment? This one…connecting with a future explorer who remind me that curiosity starts young, and that’s where the real journey begins. 🚀🪨 #spaceAF

“When you try to think about exploration companies, historically, they’ve always required some sort of real economic value that needs to be returned. We’ve historically done that in really terrible ways and AstroForge wanted to do it in a non-terrible way." – Chapman Thank you for the spotlight! The Australian Mining Review, Chloe Courtade

At 20 million km away from Earth, angular error is the real constraint for our deep space comms stack. Pointing is what makes staying connected to a spacecraft especially challenging. Any gain comes at the cost of precision. DS‐2’s high-gain antenna has a 0.4° beam. Miss that cone, and the link drops, no matter how strong the signal is. Hitting the 0.4° window from a spinning spacecraft in deep space demands tight coordination between RF, GNC, and software. This is orbital geometry, timing, dynamics, and signal processing, stacked. And we’re flying it without DSN.

Our second deep space mission, DeepSpace-2, is going to be the first private landing on a body outside the planetary gravity well. We're canvassing a metallic near-Earth asteroid for mining viability. Today's shop update features our first pieces of DS-2 merch. Let's go mine some asteroids!
