🏗️ Who is Building #ATRIUM? Meet Fundación Ibercivis: the Spanish non-profit bringing citizen science to the heart of innovation. As a foundation devoted to public engagement in #science, Fundación Ibercivis connects researchers, citizens, and creativity to make #research more open, participatory, and impactful. With over 100 hands-on experiments involving 80,000+ citizen scientists, they have become a driving force in Europe’s citizen #science #community. In #ATRIUM, Materiom leads the development and integration of two key digital tools that will empower the consortium’s research on #sustainable construction materials: 💡 Materiom AI ATRIUM: a custom version of Materiom #AI designed for the project, allowing partners to explore material data, identify formulation trends, and generate insights to speed up innovation. 🧩 Materiom Commons Database Expansion: enriching Materiom’s open repository with the latest academic data, helping to accelerate R&D efforts and share knowledge with the wider #biobased materials community. Through close collaboration with ATRIUM partners, Materiom is developing #digital resources that make bio-based material design faster, smarter, and more accessible. 🔍 Have you spotted ATRIUM in Linz? Last week, we joined the BNN - BioNanoNet Annual Forum & Networking Session, a gathering of experts shaping the future of bio-, nano-, and advanced materials. Represented by our partner Wood K plus - Kompetenzzentrum Holz GmbH, Ivana Burzic pitched ATRIUM’s work on implementing the Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) framework, thus showing how #sustainability and #safety can go hand in hand from the very first stages of material development. At #ATRIUM, our mission is clear: to develop #innovative biocomposites to make the construction sector more #sustainable, efficient, and environmentally friendly. We create materials that build a better future. That's why we deeply admire the approach of the REMEDIES project. They have identified the key sources of marine plastic pollution and are tackling each one with a specific and innovative prevention solution. Their third pillar is a playbook on how to act: 🔹 For ghost fishing, they are introducing biodegradable fishing nets. 🔹 For tourism and consumption, they are promoting zero-waste cups and bottles. 🔹 For the cosmetics industry, they are developing natural and plastic-free packaging. 🔹 For the community, they are launching anti-litter campaigns and workshops. This is not a one-size-fits-all approach, but an ecosystem of smart prevention strategies. 💡 Right now, REMEDIES is also leading an Anti-Litter Campaign in Spain, spearheaded by Aitiip Centro Tecnológico at the Zaragoza Demo Site. As a foundation dedicated to citizen science and participatory research, Fundación Ibercivis brings people closer to innovation: empowering them to take an active role in shaping the future through science. A partner in the #ATRIUM project, Fundación Ibercivis has extensive experience in bridging research and society. From mid-2026, its work will focus on testing ATRIUM’s biobased composites beyond the laboratory, through three key actions: 🔹 SME testing: engaging small and medium enterprises to validate the performance of the innovative materials developed by the project in real-world contexts. 🔹 Open calls: inviting citizens and artists to experiment with the materials, transforming them into creative works and prototypes. 🔹 Exhibition: showcasing these explorations, where art, industry, and sustainability meet. By combining testing, citizen engagement, and artistic expression, Ibercivis will ensure that ATRIUM’s innovations are not only technically validated, but also valued by the community. Have you heard the latest from ATRIUM?🌱 On 23-24 September, we joined the Renewable Materials Conference 2025 in Siegburg( Germany), one of the key events shaping the future of a fossil-free materials industry. Our partner Wood K plus - Kompetenzzentrum Holz GmbH, represented by Jürgen Leßlhumer, showcased ATRIUM’s work on fossil-free wood polymer composites for the next generation of terrace decking, during the poster sessions. The conference brought together 400+ participants from 29 countries, with discussions ranging from biomass and CO₂ utilization to recycling and policy frameworks.
