Today, BMO announced a strategic update to our U.S. branch network — refining our footprint to focus on markets where we deliver full-service banking and see strong client engagement and long-term growth potential. As part of this plan, we have entered into an agreement to sell 138 branches and select accounts to First Citizens Bank. Branches and select accounts in North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Idaho will be included in the transfer to First Citizens Bank, as well as select branches and accounts in Western Minnesota, one branch in eastern Oregon, and one branch in Southern Illinois near St. Louis. In parallel, BMO plans to open 150 new branches over the next five years, with a focus on densifying its presence in U.S. markets where it has opportunity to achieve critical mass and build on established offerings across Personal and Business Banking, Commercial Banking, and Wealth Management to deliver integrated and personalized service and advice at scale. Plans for new branches will be California-centric, but not limited to the state. We remain committed to delivering personalized, community-based banking experiences that help households and businesses make real financial progress.
