Bodman’s Rebecca Seguin-Skrabucha will serve as a panelist on October 22 on “Nuts & Bolts of the Americans with Disabilities Act,” hosted by the Diversity Committee of the Eastern District of Michigan’s Bar Association. The panel will discuss basic ADA principles and applications, providing reasonable accommodations, engaging in the interactive process, and more. Rebecca is the Vice-Chair of Bodman’s Workplace Law Practice Group. She concentrates her practice in advising employers, including municipal governments and businesses of all sizes, on compliance with state and federal employment and labor laws. Last week, Bodman’s Amanda McSween Empey and Cameron Ritsema presented “Employment Law for Future Leaders” for the Michigan Infrastructure and Transportation Association (MITA). The presentation was part of MITA’s Future Leaders Development Program, which includes a broad-based curriculum designed to prepare participants for leadership roles in their companies within the heavy construction industry. Legal, Tax, and Financial Prep That Are Worth It” of which Joe was a panelist. Julia was also a panelist for a presentation on wealth and tax strategies for sellers. Yesterday, Bodman hosted a University of Detroit Mercy Law Alumni Lunch at our Detroit Office. Bodman’s Rebecca Azar, Zachary J. Bialick, Fatmeh Cheaib, Mackenzie Clark, Bradley T French, Jennifer Goulah, Joseph Haddad, Kate Brink Harrison, Nashara Peart, BA (Hons), JD, JD., Aaron Roberson Jr., David M. Walker, Esq., and Tara Zrepskey were in attendance. Attendees relived memories from law school and heard an update on current UDM Law School news from Kimberly Batchelor Davis, the Director of Alumni Relations at UD Mercy.

He also represents clients in purchases and sales of commercial and industrial properties, in commercial leases for landlords and tenants, and in construction related matters. Congratulations to Michael Tibbits and Cameron Ritsema who both assisted pro bono client, Mr. C., in a claims dispute before the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans in Washington, D.C.   Mr. C., an 85-year-old Navy veteran who served for over 20 years, including in the Vietnam War, developed several injuries during his service. He filed three disability claims with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and, after an exam with a doctor to determine the extent of his disabilities, Mr. C. was only granted 80% coverage.   Michael and Cam appealed the claim decisions in a Rule 33 Memo and the Veterans Affairs attorney agreed to remand all three disability claims to be reviewed further. Awesome work Michael and Cam!
