Updates

  • Inside the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office it takes all of us to keep things running. From deputies out in the field, to trainers on the range, dispatchers behind the mic, and every member of our Jail staff working around the clock to keep operations safe and steady. Some days we’re moving boulders out of roadways or rescuing animals. Other days we’re in the gym, on the softball field, or at a swearing-in welcoming new faces to the team. We take care of each other so we’re ready to answer the call, respond to the call, and care for the people in our custody. Keeping balance in our lives and supporting one another is how we stay ready to meet the needs of our community. Music: Booster Musician: AlexGuz

  • Sometimes Boulder Canyon lives up to its name. Last night, Deputies Niss and Schimel responded to a fallen boulder blocking westbound traffic near Boulder Falls, and yes, a boulder at Boulder Falls. Both deputies stood in the pouring rain for over an hour and a half while keeping traffic moving safely until CDOT arrived with a front-end loader to clear the rock. Moments like this remind us why we do what we do. It’s not about the call itself, it’s about being there for the people who live, work, and travel through Boulder County. Rain or shine, day or night, we’re always just a call away. Music: Early Hours Musician: iksonmusic

  • We are saddened by Scout’s passing and honor the years of commitment Scout gave to keeping our community safe. We are grateful for Retired K9 Scout’s dedicated service to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office and to our community. We extend our appreciation to Detective Tkach for providing Scout a home in retirement and for their years of service together. Scout served from 2017-2022, until he retired to live with his handler, Detective Tkach. He was trained and certified in trailing and human remains detection. He will be greatly missed. • Recently, the Boulder County Jail celebrated the graduation of eight inmates from the IN2WORK vocational training program, offered in partnership with Aramark. The program provides participants with classroom and hands-on training in food service and warehouse operations, culminating in a nationally recognized ServSafe certification. These graduates have worked hard to gain job-ready skills that will help them succeed when they transition back to the community. We commend their achievement and wish them continued success on their journey forward. Music: Early Hours Musician: @iksonmusic

  • Listen humans… we are just trying to cross Superior one slow step at a time, but apparently we have built quite the reputation. Deputy Jensen wrangled one of us very grumpy snapping turtles this week, while APO Amber Burtis helped another one of our 30 to 40 pound cousins relocate safely off the road. Some of us are older than your favorite playlists and have been around longer than the traffic lights. We are the original slow and steady commuters. Truth is, we do not want to shell out for hospital bills any more than you do. Please do not try to play with us, pet us, or pick us up. Snapping turtles can deliver a serious bite. Call Animal Protection or the Sheriff’s Office and let the professionals do the heavy lifting so we can keep on living our best turtle lives.

Their badges, though faint in the photo, represented their service to the community during a turbulent period in local history.

  • National Co-Responder and Crisis Responder Week is September 14th-20th, 2025. The International Co-Responder Alliance (ICRA) created this week of recognition to celebrate the many Co-Responders and Crisis Responders carrying out this important work across the country while trying to meet the rising demand for mental health and substance use services. Check out our very own Co-Responder Team with Boulder County below.
