The country house auction tradition comes to Long Island City as Christie's presents Crafted & Collected: The Jonathan Burden Sale, an online sale of a wide variety of fascinating and directive works belonging to the famed New York City dealer, restorer, and collector. The auction takes place 24 Sept. to 8 Oct. 2025, with a special in-situ viewing at the Burden Studio through 7 Oct. 2025, weekdays 10am to 4pm and by appointment using the email address: BurdenInquiries@christies.com. Christie’s will offer the majority of lots without reserve and most bidding will start at just $100, giving collectors of every level the chance to acquire exceptional pieces directly from the studio via Christie’s online sale. The sale encompasses a wide range of categories and periods, from 18th-century Anglo-Indian and Georgian antiques to modern lighting and contemporary pieces crafted by Burden himself, offering a rare glimpse into his singular taste and talent. Christie's presents THE MELLON BLUE, the first jewelry highlight of the second half of 2025 to come to auction. THE MELLON BLUE, an exceptional Fancy Vivid Blue diamond, weighing 9.51 carats, graded Internally Flawless and recently set as a ring, will lead the Magnificent Jewels live auction taking place on 11 November at the Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues in Geneva. It is a rare expression of nature’s brilliance and remarkable for both its intense color and its extraordinary purity. One of the finest colored diamonds to appear on the market (estimate $20,000,000 – 30,000,000), for decades, the stone - then set as a pendent - belonged to Rachel Lambert Mellon, better known as Bunny Mellon (1910-2014), an American horticulturalist, philanthropist, and art collector. Bunny Mellon was a symbol of elegance and sophistication, and her refined taste extended to her jewellery, which she selected with the same care and sensitivity she brought to her interiors and gardens. The diamond was last seen publicly in 2014 when it was offered at auction in New York, achieving one of the highest prices paid for a colored diamond at auction. Along the lakefront in Winnetka, Illinois, a 2.3-acre estate has sold for $31.25 million, setting a record for the highest-priced residential resale in the Chicago area. Known as Windsor House, the French-inspired mansion features a private beach, organic botanical gardens, a boardwalk, boathouse, and other coveted amenities.
