⚠️The $100,000 curb miscommunication ‼️  Back in the day, on one of the new highway projects I managed, the surveyor was tasked to mark the back of the curbstone. A simple miscommunication led them to mark the front. The difference? About 6 inches. The result? A misaligned sidewalk creeping into the driving lane.  The problem? We didn’t catch it until the asphalt was paved. The fix? Tear apart, scrape the surface. Remark the layout. Pour new concrete. Repave the asphalt. This is the reality of construction layout: Tiny errors = massive consequences. Whether it’s front-of-curb vs. back-of-curb, or point description, communication breakdowns on layout are expensive. Looking back, I wish we had layout automation on that project. Fresh out of college, Liav Muler and I stood at a construction job site overseeing numerous sub-contractors, juggling deadlines and watching millions $$$ flow through surveying crews that manually marked points with outdated tools.
