Overcoming Underemployment
About us
COOP is working to build a diverse movement of upwardly mobile first-gen college grads overcoming underemployment through digital skills and peer connections. We want to reignite our nation’s promise of upward mobility for those who strive to achieve a brighter future for themselves and their families—to ensure the American Dream is a reality for all. We will ensure that first-generation and low-income college grads make the connections they need for the careers they deserve. Across our sites in New York City, San Francisco, San Jose, Los Angeles, Chicago and Miami, we’ve launched 300+ cohorts since 2014, welcoming almost 4,000 alumni in our first eight years. Eighty percent of alumni overcome underemployment within a year, earning an average of $50,000 per year and almost $75,000 after five years. COOP aims to reach 10,000 alumni in our first decade, fueling upward mobility and fulfilling the promise of higher education. Join us at coopcareers.org.

Thank you for making this event possible, Mariam! 🥳 We appreciate your partnership.
Last week, we held our Fifth Annual Meta + COOP Talent Connect! Our partnership with COOP, a non-profit dedicated to overcoming underemployment through digital skills and peer connections, with a focus on supporting first-generation college graduates, continues to make a meaningful impact for our agency partners and emerging talent. We welcomed 100 COOP interns and recruiters from leading agencies including Omnicom Media Group, WPP, Publicis, dentsu, Horizon Media, Disruptive Digital, and Critical Mass. The event provided an incredible opportunity for interns and recruiters to connect, learn, and chart their career journeys together. The day began with inspiring words from Bianca Bradford and Kalani Leifer and a panel focused on career development with Jennifer E. Matos, Vidhi Vakharia, and Ashley Alleyne-Morris and ended with meaningful networking sessions, where interns and recruiters connected, shared insights, and built valuable relationships for the future. A huge thank you to Kalani, Jennifer, Ryan Gorman, and the entire COOP team for making this event possible.

Hi everyone! I’m excited to share my first data visualization project, which I recently completed for my Data Analytics Fellowship at COOP. ✨ As part of BAAM (Brianna Tsang, Alysha Doria Robbins, Adam Tangonan, and Mimi Tran), we developed a Netflix Title Acquisition Strategy using box office data from 2012 to 2016. Our analysis focused on genre trends, franchise performance, ROI, box office revenue, and feasibility to identify high-impact titles for potential acquisition. With my background in social welfare and city planning, most of my data work has centered on analyzing the roots of social issues. This time, I got to apply that sociological lens in a new context, using structured analysis, performance metrics, and filtering logic to support strategic decisions in entertainment. Visualizing our findings in Tableau helped us truly see the data. Some titles stood out immediately, while others faded into the background, showing how visual context can shape interpretation and how clarity can drive better decisions. Working with my team surfaced patterns and perspectives I hadn’t noticed on my own. Their insights pushed me to look deeper and sharpen the story we were telling. It was a reminder that collaboration doesn’t just improve the work, but transforms it. I also utilized Microsoft Copilot throughout the project to identify franchise groupings, refine our logic, and structure the presentation. After learning about its capabilities at the recent LinkedIn AI in Work event, I was excited to apply them hands-on. This project gave me a meaningful introduction to marketing analytics and business intelligence, connecting audience trends and performance metrics to strategic recommendations. After our presentation, I felt inspired to build out a complementary dashboard (tinyurl.com/ntflxdshbrd) to deepen my practice and highlight standout movie titles from our analysis. It’s fully interactive, with navigation buttons, filters, and tooltips designed to guide viewers through the key insights. I wanted to showcase title-level patterns and visually highlight the top contenders, along with the process of elimination that led to our final Netflix Acquisition Shortlist. I’m very grateful to our program manager Juan Vindel for attending our presentation, offering insightful feedback, and recognizing our team for delivering one of the standout presentations in the COOP Bay Area Data Analytics program. Thank you to our pod captain Keanna G. for being a lovely resource throughout the project, and to our cohort captains Nayeli Magana Garcia and Salvador Avelar Jr for leading C599’s Data Viz Presentation Night so thoughtfully. 💖

What a impactful day for our fellows, alumni, and Kalani Leifer when they were able to visit Barclays Investment Bank last week and meet CEO CS Venkatakrishnan. We are grateful to the Barclays LifeSkills team for making this happen. The difference you make is immeasurable! https://lnkd.in/ePziBr5q
I recently volunteered with the Barclays LifeSkills programme for our Make a Difference campaign, taking part in a session with inspiring graduates from our charity partner COOP. This campaign is one that I look forward to every year. We discussed career paths and I shared my formula for a successful career - you learn, you adapt, you become resilient. Thank you to our partners and colleagues who help make the important Barclays LifeSkills work happen. #BarclaysMakeaDifference
