Covenant House provides housing and supportive services to youth facing homelessness.
About us
No youth should ever be without a home — period. This urgent belief and over 50 years of experience have placed Covenant House at the forefront of the fight against youth homelessness. Founded in 1972, Covenant House is the largest primarily privately-funded agency in the North and Central America offering free 24/7 crisis care, housing, and supportive services for youth, young families, and survivors of human trafficking. Located in 34 cities across 5 countries (the United States, Canada, Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico) Covenant House provides shelter, food, medical and mental health care, crisis intervention, educational and vocational services, and an array of supportive services to youth facing homelessness regardless of their race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression. The Covenant House mission is centered and built on community, where youth, staff, volunteers, and partners love one another unconditionally, respect each other absolutely, and dedicate ourselves to a covenant of compassion and hope.

Every youth deserves a stable place to live, and affordable-for-youth housing is the first step — not the last resort. We’re rethinking what “affordable” really means for young people trying to move out of homelessness. That means building 1,000 affordable-for-youth housing units over the next 10 years by buying and fixing up small and mid-sized buildings.

Each year, from September 15 to October 15, the United States celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month, a time to honor the histories, cultures, and contributions of people whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, and South America. At Covenant House, this heritage is woven into our history. Our second site opened in Guatemala in 1981, beginning a decades-long story of partnership, service, and community across Latin America. Today, 21% of Covenant House International staff proudly identify as Hispanic, bringing their cultures, languages, and traditions into the heart of our mission every single day. This year, we're thrilled to launch our Hispanic Heritage Month Spotlight Wall, featuring stories and photos of Hispanic staff members from across our federation. These spotlights honor not just their professional contributions, but also the heritage, values, and experiences that enrich our community. We invite you to explore these stories, learn something new, and join us in celebrating the diversity that makes our Covenant House family stronger. Thanks to Eli Hernandez, cynthia castillo, Susan Reyna-Guerrero, Luis Roman, Heidi Huppert, Alexia Esteves, Antonia Ramirez, Gerardo Escaroz, and everyone else featured in the Spotlight Wall for sharing their stories.

That’s how many young people in the United States experience a form of homelessness. If that’s the size of the problem, that needs to be the size of the solution. #EndYouthHomelessness

See Covenant House through Track's eyes. Track arrived to us carrying a seedling and a notebook full of poetry. During his time at Covenant House, both the plant and his gift with words have flourished and grown alongside him. Track's story is featured in our new PSA, which he co-produced. He helped develop a story that lets you see Covenant House through his eyes, from his first welcome at Covenant House, to getting the support he needed to thrive. Thanks to NBCUniversal's Creative Impact Lab and Reel Works for helping bring his vision to life.

We're on Capitol Hill today to make our vision clear: the time is now to end youth homelessness. Youth ambassadors, Covenant House leadership, and key supporters are meeting with representatives to secure bipartisan funding for youth homelessness services and share our plan for helping youth transition out of homelessness with affordable-for-youth housing.
