From CSVs to cloud-native geodata: We rebuilt Canada’s Spatial Access Measures dataset into a single GeoParquet file, queryable in the browser with DuckDB-WASM + deck.gl. The result? A fast, lightweight, interactive map that makes public data truly accessible. This past year, with International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC, we've been working hard to consolidate and normalize global crisis data through the #Monty API, a tool that brings together diverse disaster and impact information into a unified, searchable system. What's new in v1.1.0: 🇺🇳 2025 UNDRR-ISC Hazard Taxonomy Integration - We've adopted the latest international standard for hazard classification established by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR). This ensures our data uses the same language as the global disaster risk reduction community. I subtitled my talk "Pragmatic STAC" because stac-geoparquet was motivated by real-world problems found while deploying and managing large scale STACspec systems (specifically the Microsoft Planetary Computer, s/o Tom Augspurger).
