Last week, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued Disa Technologies, Inc. the first-ever Service Provider License (SPL) authorizing the remediation of abandoned uranium mine waste across the western United States. This landmark decision marks a new era in environmental cleanup — one that enables faster, safer, and more cost-effective remediation of legacy uranium sites, while recycling valuable uranium for America’s nuclear fuel supply chain. We’re deeply grateful to NRC Chairman David Wright and Commissioners Bradley Crowell and Matthew Marzano for their leadership, and to Senators Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) and Mark Kelly (D-AZ) for their bipartisan commitment to innovation, energy security and environmental remediation Special thanks to Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren, EdD, MBA and the Navajo Nation Environmental Protection Agency for their partnership and vision — proving that federal, tribal and private collaboration can turn long-standing challenges into shared progress. We’re also thankful for the strong engagement of stakeholders who supported this effort, including ClearPath Action, Good Energy Collective,Third Way, Nuclear Innovation Alliance, The Breakthrough Institute, Native Nuclear, Generation Atomic, and many others across the environmental, energy, and community sectors. As noted by World Nuclear News, this is a “landmark for U.S. uranium remediation” — and just the beginning.
