      +1
  • Today, on Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we honor the strength, wisdom, and resilience of Indigenous communities across the Americas and around the world. We recognize the deep injustices and inequities Indigenous peoples have face and continue to face due to colonization, displacement, and systemic neglect. At Doctors for Global Health (DGH), we stand in solidarity with Indigenous communities and celebrate their leadership in advancing community health and human rights. In Mexico, our partners have worked alongside Indigenous communities to strengthen access to equitable healthcare, promote traditional healing practices, and uplift community-led models of care that center cultural identity and self-determination. This day serves as a reminder that global health cannot exist without justice for Indigenous peoples. As we reflect, let us recommit to listening, learning, and supporting Indigenous-led movements that defend land, language, and life. Call to Action: We invite you to honor Indigenous Peoples’ Day not only in words but through action by advocating for policies that protect Indigenous sovereignty, supporting Indigenous health initiatives, and amplifying Indigenous voices in your communities. Together, we can continue building a world rooted in dignity, respect, and equity for all peoples. • Dear Fellow APHA members (or former members), We write with concern about the reputation and integrity of our American Public Health Association. As APHA weathers the U.S. political maelstrom around Israel and Palestine, we affirm the importance of remaining strong and unified in our role as protectors of public health, human rights, and our members. This includes safeguarding the rights of our members to disagree with U.S. foreign policy so we can fulfill our mission of championing health equity, both here and globally. Professor Amy Hagopian, a longtime APHA member, has been singled out for her activism and criticism of Israeli policy. We invite APHA members and former members to sign on to a letter urging the APHA’s governing board, executive director, and governing council to reverse the decision to ban Professor Hagopian from this year’s APHA conference in Washington DC, cancel her membership, and remove her as the elected chair of the International Health Section for her pro-Palestine activism. For more background and to sign the letter, scan the QR Code. Invite your friends in the APHA to sign as well.

  • Today, on National Latino Physician Day, we honor the dedication and leadership of Latino physicians across the country and especially recognize our own physician within DGH! Dr. Manuel's work not only uplifts patients and communities here in the U.S. but also shines a light on the systemic inequities in rural communities in Mexico, where access to care, resources, and investment remain limited. By addressing these disparities head-on, he embodies DGH’s mission of advancing health equity and social justice. We celebrate his commitment to healing, advocacy, and amplifying the voices of the most underserved. On #nationallatinophysicianday we invite our community to join us in standing with Latino physicians everywhere and supporting efforts that challenge inequities, expand access to care, and strengthen health for all!
