Writing *good* screener surveys makes all the difference in recruiting quality research participants. Here's what we mean by "writing good": 👉 Mix up questions to avoid obvious answers A 60/40 mix is safe, where 60% of questions are closed and 40% are open-ended. Open-ended questions help you see how a participant would answer in their own words without priming them to respond in a specific way. They can also give clues on how much insight a participant will provide in your study. 👉 Write one question for each of your criterions That way, you can target the best participants for the information you need correctly. Ideally, your screener survey is about 5-10 questions. Once it gets longer and more complex, you can experience drop-offs. 👉 Remove vague information ✖ Imprecise criteria: People who've wanted to move recently. ☑ Precise criteria: People who've visited 3+ apartments in the past 60 days. 👉 Focus on past behavior as much as possible ✖ Future-based question: Will you look at apartments in the next 60 days? ☑ Past-based question: Have you looked at 3+ apartments in the past 60 days? 👉 Don't influence people with leading questions ✖ Leading question: Do you agree that apartments without online pictures are not worth looking at? ☑ Non-leading question: How do you feel when apartment listings don't have any photos available online? 👉 Use logic to order questions Ask for the broadest qualifying information at the start of the screener and then narrow it down to more specific information. 👉 Always include an open text field or N/A You don't want to force participants to answer a question incorrectly because the survey doesn't allow them to say something that isn't applicable. Include fields like: • Not applicable • I don't know • None of the above Or let people answer in their own words with an "Other" option paired with an open-text field.

Still smiling after last night’s UX Uncorking! 😊 Sometimes all it takes is a bingo card and some free-flowing prosecco to turn a room full of strangers into a bunch of excited UXRers swapping stories and sharing ups & downs 💬 Huge shoutout to Dscout for such a clever ice breaker and such a genuinely welcoming vibe 🍾 There’s just something about being around people who get it — same challenges, same passions — that leaves you feeling re-energised and inspired 💛 Can’t wait for the next one! What square on the bingo card is your best match? (You’ll need to zoom in to discover it 😎) #UserExperience #UXResearch #Networking #CareerGrowth #UXLife #HumanCenteredDesign

QUALITY UX research is essential. But some orgs still need convincing that it's more than just an expensive product development box to check. Since people love a numbered list, let's knock out 3 quick reasons why treating UX as an investment pays off. 1️⃣ Rising user expectations With everything at their fingertips, a majority of your users won’t give you time to fix product mistakes. Prioritizing user research isn’t just about improving experiences. It’s about keeping your users and staying competitive. 2️⃣ Failure is expensive Ignoring user needs can lead to product failure, high churn rates, and costly rework—i.e., lost revenue and frustrated customers. 3️⃣ Evolving tech As if we weren’t gonna talk about AI. Without proper user research and model training, GenAI tools are not only unpredictable for the user, but can also be unsafe. When UX research falls short or doesn’t exist at all, the consequences directly impact everyone involved in very real and, sometimes, irreversible ways. If these breezed over points didn't sway opinions, we wrote a 44-page business case full of research—surprise, surprise—that might do the trick. If you're building new AI offerings for your customers, this event will give you a ton of inspo on how real people are actually using this tech in their day-to-day. The team at KR&I will be walking us through one of their recent foundational research studies on our platform. ❓Where do fandom and AI intersect? ❓Why does it matter for your brand? ❓How do you build AI products and experiences that keep customers coming back? Set aside an hour on Wednesday to hear all the major takeaways: https://lnkd.in/g2NPw4fM *If you're unable to attend live, still register and we'll send you a recording.

✨ Last month, I had the incredible privilege of speaking at Dscout's Co-Lab conference on how we can embed foresight into UX research, not just to anticipate change, but to shape it to realize our preferred futures. 💡 I left the conference deeply inspired. From conversations about design + AI, to unlocking executive leadership, to envisioning the future of our field - it was a powerful gathering of thoughtful leaders in our community. 🎥 Couldn’t make it in person? Join us next month on November 12th-13th for Co-Lab Continued, a virtual replay of the talks, plus live Q&A with speakers! 👉 Register here: https://lnkd.in/gg-fq8cH A heartfelt thank you to my fellow speakers on the Unlocking Futures track—Katy Mogal, Ashton Snook, and Danielle Morrison—for your brilliant insights and collaboration. And a huge shoutout to Julie Marie Norvaisas and Colleen Pate for making this event such a success, and to all the fellow speakers and attendees for engaging conversations and provocations!
