Downtown Pittsburgh is seeing an inspiring transformation ahead of next year’s NFL Draft — and DLC is ready to bring the energy, literally! We’re excited to unveil our new, state-of-the-art Watson Substation that will soon provide an extra source of safe, resilient power to the Golden Triangle. Featuring modern amenities like 130 rooftop solar panels and a robust stormwater management system, Watson will improve resiliency for the Downtown community, especially as our region faces increasingly severe weather and growing energy demand. Located in the Bluff neighborhood — commonly referred to as Uptown and the Hill District — the substation was designed with the community at its core and is a big leap forward for Pittsburgh’s energy future. Last week, we proudly celebrated DLH’s third annual "National Coming Out Day" event, hosted by PRISM — our LGBTQ+ focused business employee resource group. Employees came together to hear inspiring coming out experiences, which opened up meaningful conversations about acceptance and support for loved ones. In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, we teamed up with the Pittsburgh Pirates for the Clemente Day of Service — honoring Roberto Clemente’s legacy through community impact.   As Clemente said: “Any time you have an opportunity to make a difference in this world and you don’t, then you are wasting your time on Earth.”   Thank you to everyone who helped us uplift Hispanic and Latino heritage.

DLC welcomed former FERC Chair Mark C. Christie to Pittsburgh this week to discuss the critical role of electric utilities in the current energy landscape. Leaders from the company highlighted areas for continued collaboration with policymakers and regulators regarding the long-term economic health of our region. Conversations focused on collective efforts to ensure a sufficient supply of electricity for our customers with near-term increases in demand from data centers driving a potential gap. Chairman Christie also had the opportunity to visit DLC’s state-of-the-art Operations Center, where employees offered first-hand insights into new technologies that are driving better performance. As an added bonus, we learned that Chairman Christie is a Pirates fan and were pleased to share some Pittsburgh pride!

This week on Our Region’s Business, DLC President & CEO Kevin Walker joined Bill Flanagan for an insightful conversation about the growing demands on our energy infrastructure — and the opportunities and challenges posed by data centers.   Kevin discussed how DLC is working to keep energy affordable and dependable for customers while also supporting AI’s economic potential.
