🌏 We’re hiring: Business Development Lead At Earthshot, we’re scaling reforestation and conservation: by de-risking, developing and financing high-integrity nature-based carbon projects, and building technology that makes it easier than ever to restore nature at scale. 2024/25 was a big year: 🌳 Released LandOS, automating many of the most time-consuming steps in carbon project development. 🌳 1 million+ hectares now under conservation and reforestation. 🌳 $60M+ in projects financed, and growing fast after our Series A. Now, we’re looking for a Business Development Lead - a sales hustler in the service of the planet. You’ll close partnerships with corporates and project developers, help finance restoration projects globally, and join a world-class team that’s rewriting what’s possible. If you thrive at the intersection of carbon markets, nature, and partnerhips, this is your call to action! Apply here → https://lnkd.in/dYRVp3mT Let’s build the infrastructure for planetary restoration - together. Note: This is a global, remote position. We’re unable to sponsor U.S. visa applications at this time.

Earthshot reposted this Differentiating natural grasslands from other non-forest classes is difficult. And no dataset (from GPW to MapBiomas) is perfect. I recently worked on a project where differentiating grasslands from other non-forest categories was essential for their land use decision making. Around the same time, Global Pasture Watch (GPW) by the Land & Carbon Lab and version 2 of MapBiomas Paraguay were released. Thinking these may solve my complex problem, I did a deep dive into the accuracy of these datasets for the region. What I found was that both MapBiomas and GPW showed promise but had limitations: • GPW struggled to differentiate between cultivated and natural and tended to miss many grassland patches, especially those that are darker colored. • MapBiomas generally captured grasslands better (with some exceptions) but frequently confused pastures with natural grasslands. The distinction between flooded and non-flooded grasslands also needs improvement. These datasets are both very impressive–differentiating between natural and unnatural grassy areas using satellite imagery is quite the feat. But it’s important for project teams to be aware of these limitations when using them for decision-making. I am excited to see how both continue to improve in future releases! So what did I do for this project? I ended up identifying grassland areas based on Landsat imagery from the 1980s. The landscape had experienced little degradation by that time and differentiating natural grassland from agriculture and pastures was much more streamlined. Has anyone else explored grasslands datasets? What have your impressions been? Hey network! We're expanding our carbon compliance team and looking for a senior compliance expert to join. Have you written PDDs, worked at a standard body, developed projects, run audits at a VVB, or done FPIC trainings? If so, we want to hear from you. Earthshot is doing really well in a turbulent market, and I believe we have the opportunity to create the infrastructure to restore and protect nature at planetary scale. If this is also your mission, that's the first criteria :) Who are the best people you know in this space? Hey network! Earthshot reposted this The rise of forward-deployed engineering in nature tech Palantir has proven out the business model for bespoke advisory, with team members deeply intertwined in their customer companies operations. It’s not just SaaS. It’s expert consulting backed by cutting edge technology, and the value created is incredible. We had to learn this lesson at Earthshot as well: in order to successfully implement a corporate nature-based climate program, you need end to end support, not just tech. There are so many carbon and nature tech companies today building software tools for project management, monitoring, underwriting, and carbon compliance, but they don’t solve the fundamental problems: did the project successfully get registered and generate credits? Were the project operations successful, and who is responsible when a project hits a roadblock? Did the project secure funding and an offtake agreement, or did they build a bridge to nowhere? Very few companies want just a geospatial information that they need a team to interpret, they want the solution to their problem. This is only possible with a team of experts, backed up by technology and rigorous science to make them effective. This is one reason we took so long to release LandOS (https://lnkd.in/grJwMFw6) publicly. Yes, we hope you get incredible value assessing land parcels, doing diligence on investments, and monitoring project outcomes. But these projects are incredibly complex, and having a dedicated team with experts like Cecilia Simon Abel Marcarini Sara Betancur Demetrius Lira Martins Polly Thornton Anika Staccone at Earthshot working with your project from the start with a 40+ year commitment is what makes the difference between a successful portfolio of projects with enduring value and a decade of compliance and operational headaches.
