In September we celebrated our 100-year anniversary with our Centenary Conference in Somerset West. The conference was a massive success and we have received overwhelmingly positive feedback from both long-standing ESSA members as well as other participants. We had close to 300 participants from academia, government and industry, with over 200 papers being presented. We would like to thank our headline sponsor, PPS for their support and collaboration, together with our other sponsors for the event include the South African Reserve Bank, Economic Research Southern Africa (ERSA), Bureau for Economic Research (BER) and Interledger Foundation, who helped to make this event a huge success. Another big thank you goes to our student volunteers from University of the Western Cape, University of Cape Town and Stellenbosch University. The conference included many Special Sessions that were arranged by some of the leading economics research organisations in the country, these included: South African Reserve Bank, Economic Research Southern Africa (ERSA), University of Cape Town (DataFirst), DSI/NRF SARChI in Industrial Development, Development Policy Research Unit, Southern Africa Labour and Development Research Unit, African Centre of Excellence for Inequality Research, African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA), University of Pretoria (Energy Economics Research Unit (EERU)),Stellenbosch Universityy (Research on Socio-Economic Policy (RESEP)),UNU-WIDER - United Nations University World Institute for Development Economics Researchh (SA-TIED) andStellenbosch Universityy (Laboratory for the Economics of Africa's Past (LEAP)). It was wonderful to connect with our community of economists, and we look forward to continued engagement and growth as a Society.

Today marks the second day at our Centenary Conference. Daniela Casale delivered her Presidential Address entitled, "Diversity, Equity and Inclusion: Reflections on Gender". She explained central features of feminist economics, making equity and efficiency arguments for gender diversity, and turning the lens inward, she provided evidence of diversity in the economics profession in South Africa and why women's under-representation matters. The full text of her sobering and inspiring address will be published in the South African Journal of Economics, ESSA's flagship journal.
