The single biggest bottleneck to cheap, renewable electricity and grid storage is the raw materials. 99% of LFP battery material, used in half of all batteries, is made in China. Electroflow has pioneered a radically efficient process that unlocks American Lithium and is the key to truly abundant, cheap, domestic clean energy. Here's Albert Wenger's conversation with Eric McShane, Electroflow's co-founder and CEO:

Plants to produce cathode materials are in trouble across North America — and that could leave the US seriously short of places to turn mined lithium into battery materials. The US Department of Energy has halted funding for a planned lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cathode plant in St. Louis, to be built by chemical giant ICL. ICL said in a filing that it is “examining the continuation of the Project and all of its activities related to LFP cathode active material.” This follows reports that GM and Korea’s Posco have scrapped plans for a second-phase expansion of their cathode plant in Quebec. Without cathode production in North America, there will be nowhere to send the lithium mined in the region. In effect, the Trump administration is using taxpayer money to support lithium mining — while simultaneously undermining demand for it. The likely outcome? US lithium shipped to Asia for processing, possibly to China.
