Personalized medicine is only as powerful as the models we use to understand the patient. Genomics alone can’t always predict how a person will respond to a therapy. To truly personalize treatment, we need platforms that preserve the biology, mechanics, and microenvironment of the human body — even outside of it. That’s where Organ-on-a-Chip technology is changing the game. Our latest blog explores how researchers are using Organ-Chips with patient-derived samples to create the best possible “home away from home” for human tissues — enabling more predictive, physiologically accurate results. Read how Organ-Chips are advancing personalized medicine through three real-world examples: 🩸 Modeling clinical bone marrow toxicities and patient-specific pathophysiology 🧠 Recreating sporadic ALS on-chip using iPSC-derived motor neurons and a functional blood-brain-like barrier 🎯 Predicting chemotherapy response in esophageal adenocarcinoma with patient-derived tumor chips Together, these studies highlight how Organ-Chips can help researchers make the most of every patient sample — translating living human biology into actionable insights for discovery and precision therapy. NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration has been sending animals to space for years to study how space travel affects them and extrapolate the effects on humans. Now, there might be a better way. The next lunar mission will include Organ Chips provided by Emulate, Inc. as part of the AVATAR experiment. A similar batch of chips will remain on Earth as a control, and by comparing the two, researchers can better understand the effects of microgravity and space radiation levels inside the Orion capsule. This proof-of-concept study will determine if the Chips can be used to accurately determine bone marrow response in astronauts. If it works, this method holds enormous potential in better understanding the impact of space travel on the human body, even comparing groups by factors such as age. I am proud to see Organ Chips travel to this new frontier and excited to continue finding new and innovative ways to use this technology. https://lnkd.in/ewSTRiZA
