Today, Kairos Power, Google, and the Tennessee Valley Authority announced a first-of-its-kind collaboration to bolster America’s clean energy leadership. Through a new Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), the Hermes 2 Demonstration Plant in Oak Ridge, Tenn., will deliver up to 50 megawatts of clean, reliable energy to the TVA grid to further decarbonize Google data center operations and support future growth in the region.
This is the first PPA for a U.S. utility to buy electricity from an advanced reactor, and the first deployment under Kairos Power’s landmark deal with Google to enable 500 MW of new advanced nuclear capacity to come online by 2035.
It will enable Kairos Power to accelerate our iterative development pathway, re-envisioning the Hermes 2 Demonstration Plant as a 50 MWe commercial-scale reactor that will be the immediate predecessor to our future commercial fleet.
