📣 New recommendations to strengthen the EU’s supply of radiopharmaceuticals Radiopharmaceuticals are essential tools in modern healthcare — from diagnostics and imaging to cancer treatment. But European supply depends on imports from outside the EU and faces significant production and transport challenges. For this reason, EMA and Heads of Medicines Agencies (HMA), through the Executive Steering Group on Shortages and Safety of Medicinal Products (MSSG), have issued recommendations addressed to European and national regulators, as well as to industry, to tackle vulnerabilities in the supply chain. The recommendations highlight the need to: ➡️ Increase Europe’s own production capacity ➡️ Address transport challenges through coordination and harmonisation between countries ➡️ Encourage collaboration between regulators and industry ➡️ Leverage ongoing European initiatives Regulatory support alone isn’t enough. Long-term industrial policy is needed to strengthen supply. This is a proactive step towards securing the supply of life-saving medical products for European patients.
