    Over 59 million tonnes of food waste and 12.6 million tonnes of textile waste are produced yearly in the EUā€”a waste we simply canā€™t afford. Their precious biodiversity is indispensable to keeping the planet in a liveable balance.Ā  Ā  But only 1% of the ocean is currently protected from threats such as pollution and overexploitation.Ā  Ā  Thatā€™s why the EU helped bring together the global community for the šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡³ Treaty of the High Seas.Ā  Ā Ā  The treaty will protect biodiversity in an area that comprises 95% of the ocean:Ā  šŸ”¹ enabling large-scale marine protected areas;Ā Ā  šŸ”ø increasing international cooperation;Ā  šŸ”¹ establishing environmental impact assessments.Ā  Ā Ā  By signing it, we have moved closer to preserving 30% of our planet by 2030.Ā Ā  Ā Ā  We encourage countries to keep signatures coming in to help protect our oceanā€™s biodiversity.
