Where do PE-backed CEOs truly excel – and where do they fall short? Portco executives weighed in: 🔸 51% said the most essential skill a CEO can have is driving value creation initiatives throughout the hold period. Only 7% pointed to maximizing operational efficiency. 🔸 33% believed CEOs stumble most when balancing company leadership with sponsor priorities, followed by keeping pace with PE’s intensity (28.2%). 🔸 Alignment is a problem: just 27% of executive teams reported being “very aligned” with their CEO. Cross-functional silos and poor communication were identified as the top culprits. What this means for you: 💡 Sponsors: Pressure-test CEO durability early. Extended holds magnify the need for consistent value creation skills. Push for alignment across the leadership team and watch for communication blind spots. Note that only 34% of CEOs are “very open” to feedback; defensiveness at the top can cascade throughout a company. 💡 Executives: Whether you’re a CEO or part of the leadership team, align early and often on strategy, priorities, and sponsor expectations. Seek and share candid feedback, and address friction points like goal overpromising or lack of transparency before they derail execution. Initial calls with candidates are more than a pitch. They’re our chance to build trust with candidates and understand whether the right fit is there. 🔸 We start every conversation by meeting candidates where they are, not where we want them to be. We ask about their current goals and timing first. 🔸 Many candidates assume recruiters are transactional. We counter that perception by showing that our goal is long-term fit, not short-term gain. Rob Huxtable, Partner at Falcon, shares how we approach these initial calls while navigating candidate needs: #PrivateEquity #ExecutiveSearch #Recruiting #TalentStrategy #Hiring

Alignment between private equity sponsors and their portfolio company executives is essential to unlock maximum value creation. To improve outcomes and maximize ROI, sponsors need to know how they can best support the leadership teams tasked with delivering returns. That’s why Falcon is once again partnering with our content platform, PrivateEquityCXO, to launch the fourth-annual Top 50 Private Equity Firms for Executives Survey: the foundation for the yearly report we share with sponsors and executives to help them drive stronger outcomes together. 🔸 Sponsors: Want to know what your portco leaders are really thinking – and be considered for next year’s list of winning firms? Encourage them to take this anonymous survey. 🔸 Executives: Your anonymous insights help sponsors understand where they're adding value - and where there’s room to provide better support. After taking this 8-minute survey, all respondents will receive 50% off any product in PE-CXO's Career Store, built exclusively to support PE-backed executive career growth. 👉 Take the survey: https://lnkd.in/eS43FEx8 #PrivateEquity #ExecutiveLeadership #ValueCreation #TalentStrategy #Top50 #ROI

The private equity-backed interview process is multi-layered. Candidates meet stakeholders from both the company and the fund, each with their own distinct perspective. 🔸 Candidates often engage with a range of stakeholders: the CRO, CEO, Operating Partners, and lead investors. We coach candidates to understand who they’re meeting and what matters most to each. 🔸 We help candidates tailor their approach accordingly: asking the right questions and doing targeted research.
