Hey ASHRAE! As we begin the 2025-26 school year, ASHRAE Cincinnati Student Chapter is excited to welcome our first speaker of the semester, Ben Weinberger, PE from FFE Engineering & Architecture! Ben is a mechanical engineer that graduated from the University of Dayton in 2018. He has experience in the HVAC and plumbing fields, and his work now focuses on federal healthcare projects, specifically VA hospitals. A recent SimScale case study showcases how FFE used cloud-based CFD simulations to validate a ventilation design for a healthcare renovation project —ensuring compliance with ASHRAE 62.1 and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs HVAC Design Manual while saving time and resources. We are pleased to share the recent release of the VA Standards for Medical/Surgical Inpatient Units, published in June by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. As prime consultant, FFE Inc. led the development of this Design Guide, which outlines current best practices in planning and design for VA inpatient care settings. These standards are intended to support the creation of environments that enhance patient care, improve staff efficiency, and reflect the evolving needs of veterans and care teams. Last week, the FFE Inc. team had the opportunity to visit the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville District for a project briefing and tour of the new Louisville VA Medical Center.   We appreciated the chance to learn more about the vision, scope, and progress of this transformative healthcare facility. The scale and complexity of the project are impressive, and it’s clear that thoughtful planning and technical expertise are at the forefront. A sincere thank-you to the Louisville USACE team for sharing your time and insight with us. It was a valuable experience for our architects and engineers to see the work firsthand and better understand how this facility will serve our veterans for generations to come.

We are proud to share that Kayla Tucker has been selected for the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) 2025-2026 Leadership Development Program! This prestigious, year-long program fosters the next generation of AEC leaders through training, study, and new opportunities for professional growth. Kayla’s selection is a testament to her hard work, leadership, and passion for advancing our industry. We’re excited to see all that she accomplishes through this program—congratulations, Kayla!

Yesterday we had the opportunity to visit the Hamilton County Coroner Office and Crime Laboratory. You can tell when the architects really understand what the users need, even when they even didn't know it yet. FFE Inc.
