  • 🥗 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗟𝗼𝘀𝘀 & 𝗪𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲. 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲. 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗲𝘁. Every day, while millions go hungry, tons of perfectly edible food are lost or wasted. Globally, 𝟭𝟯.𝟮% 𝗼𝗳 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗶𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘁 between harvest and retail, and 𝟭𝟵% 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 at household, retail, and food service level, being a major threat to our environment, biodiversity, and health. • 🌍 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝘂𝗽! In August 2025, the University of Pretoria proudly participated in a series of 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽𝘀 held under the FoodSafety4Africa project. 👩🌾 Funded by the EU, the initiative focused on strengthening smallholder farmers’ capacity to implement 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 (𝗚𝗔𝗣) - a crucial step toward improving #FoodSafety, quality, and market access. The workshops, hosted in partnership with the Gauteng Department of Agriculture Land Reform & Rural Development and Rural Development (GDARD), reached around 𝟭𝟬𝟬 𝗳𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀. To make the training engaging and practical, UP introduced an 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 that combined science with the arts. A 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 developed by 𝗨𝗣’𝘀 𝗗𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗮 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 brought the training content to life, allowing farmers to actively discuss challenges and co-create solutions. 🎭 Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with farmers highlighting the relevance, relatability, and empowerment gained from the program. The event underscored FS4Africa’s commitment to inclusive, innovative, and impactful food safety capacity-building in Africa. #HorizonEU #ResearchImpactEU #SustainableAfrica #OneHealth
