📍 Chicago On Wednesday, we gathered for a fascinating #CafédesSciences dedicated to one of the most universal challenges of our time: distraction. 🧠 A huge thank you to our wonderful speakers: - Dr. Matthieu Chidharom, PhD, who opened the evening with a presentation on how scientists study attention and distraction through experimental research, using EEG and imagining techniques. - Dr. Edward K. Vogel and Dr. Monica D. Rosenberg from the University of Chicago, who led a discussion with the audience on how distraction shapes our daily lives. The Cafés des Sciences continue to be a special moment where the French and American scientific communities come together, exchange ideas, and build connections across disciplines and borders. 🌎 Valérie Livrelli - Laura Goutaudier - Consulate General of France in Chicago

The Scientific Counselor of the French Embassy in the United States, Didier MARTY-DESSUS, visited #Chicago this week and had the pleasure of meeting with the dynamic teams at the University of Chicago. Throughout the day, he met with the Science Strategy Team of the university, the leadership of UChicago Global, the CNRS-UChicago International Research Center Discovery teams and their #IRL directors, as well as the France Chicago Center leadership. He also had inspiring conversations with several #FACCTS Fellowship recipients and toured the #DUNE Anode Plane Assembly Production Facility. The visit concluded with a reception honoring the 2025 FACCTS laureates, where Charlotte MONTEL, Consul General of France in Chicago, highlighted that “FACCTS is more than a partnership, it is a catalyst for discovery and a bridge between two worlds of excellence: the University of Chicago and the French scientific community.”. It was an honor to be invited to present my research, “Towards a Future where Security is Verified, Not Assumed,” at the poster session of the 3rd edition of the France Science Summit, held at La Maison Française of the Embassy of France in Washington, D.C., on October 20th, 2025. It was a perfect day where science met passion beyond borders, a celebration of how collaboration between nations can yield something truly beautiful and impactful. I really enjoyed talking to researchers from different fields and learning about their work. Thank you Marie-Naomi FAIFE for inviting me. The evening was nothing short of magical! I reconnected with my dear friend Achrène DYREK, PhD, and together we relived our L’Oréal–UNESCO Women in Science days, raising a glass of champagne at the Résidence de France in Washington to friendship, science, and shared dreams. #france #usa #research #science #loreal #UNESCO #womeninscience #francesummit Images credit: Emilie Nguyen / Press and Communication Office / Embassy of France in the U.S.

I recently had the honor to represent the fantastic relationship between the Région Hauts-de-France and the State of Maryland at the France Science Summit 2025. 🇺🇸 🇫🇷 Our two states are pioneering novel air quality research for public benefit. Over the past two years, I've contributed to GRASP Earth, a science-driven technology company based in Lille, FRA and Baltimore, USA. GRASP Earth combines satellite, aircraft, and “nose-level” instrument hardware with state-of-the-art data interpretation software. Why this combination? To better understand how small aerosols called particulate matter (PM) are distributed spatially, vertically, and how they impact human health globally. At the surface, PM < 10 microns in size can get into our lungs. This is 15x smaller than the thickness of human hair. PM < 2.5 microns can lodge deep in the lung, disrupt the blood-oxygen pathway, and over time, spur on respiratory illness. More comprehensive global measurements of PM means more actionable policies in the future that could save lives. Many thanks to the Embassy of France in the United States, and I look forward to the future of our growing collaborations! 🤝 Photo credits: Emilie Nguyen / Press and Communication Office / Embassy of France in the U.S.

The French Office for Science and Technology in the US welcomed the 3rd edition of the France Science Summit on the 20th of October 2025, an occasion to highlight scientific and academic collaboration between France and the US. INRAE had the pleasure to co-organise and co-fund the summit with France Science, alongside the CNRS and Inserm North America. It was the occasion for our research institute to recall the history that links INRAE to the United States of America, our first partner in terms of co-publications. Dr Iban Seiliez, Research Director at INRAE, presented the International Associated Laboratory (IAL) Aquasafe, currently awaiting signing with the USDA-ARS. As the co-cordinator of this IAL focused on the future of Aquaculture, he was able to underline the benefits of this institutional cooperation tool. Steffi Reji, his PhD student, and currently a visiting student at USDA-ARS, also presented the results of her research, alongside 25 other PhD students and post-docs, during the poster session organised by France Science. I also had the chance and the honour to moderate the "Data Science and Modelling for Agriculture and Climate" panel welcoming Dr Estelle Couradeau, Assistant Professor at Penn State University, Dr Pierre Gentine, Professor at Columbia University and Dr Louis Derry, Professor at Cornell University. I would like to thank them for their fascinating scientific presentation and their enlightening discussion on: • the possible applications of their research, • the partnerships with economic and political stakeholders which need to be implemented to face tomorrow’s challenges, • and among all the importance to maintain strong scientific links between France and the US. Thank you to all the speakers and participants for this fruitful event!
