Fur is not only cruel, it’s also costly. Our new economic report presented at the European Parliament today shows fur farming reduces the EU economy, rather than contributes to it: 🌎 Environmental cost of fur farms to the EU = 226 million per year. ⚕️Costs to prevent public health risks = 211 million per year. 🪙 EU fur farming comes at an annual cost of 446 million to EU citizens. There is no excuse for the European Union to continue the needless animal suffering for fur #FurFreeEurope

Today, we're at the European Parliament with Eurogroup for Animals to launch a new report on the true cost of fur. Generating a negative €9.2 million in gross value added (GVA), the fur industry reduces, rather than contributes, to the EU economy. Griffin Carpenter, economist and author of the report: "EU fur farming has been unprofitable for several years and the sector is no longer financially viable without other sources of funds. The industry is also a major recipient of public funds which, on balance, greatly exceed tax revenues" There is no excuse for the European Union to continue the needless animal suffering for fur #FurFreeEurope Read more: https://lnkd.in/das_HusT

In the coming weeks, the Polish parliament (the Sejm) will discuss a ban on fur farming. Otwarte Klatki, much appreciated member of the Fur Free Alliance, has been campaigning for this for years. Last year, members of the Fur Free Alliance from countries all over Europe visited the Sejm, to share knowledge and experiences with a ban. The best of luck Marta Korzeniak and colleagues!

📢 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗦𝘄𝗶𝘁𝘇𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱! This September, the Swiss National Council voted overwhelmingly in favour of a strong counterproposal to the Fur Import Ban Initiative. This decision is a clear rejection of attempts by the fur lobby to legitimise their own “animal welfare” labels, and a strong signal that Switzerland stands for real protection for animals used in the fur industry. 💪 👏 The Fur Free Alliance warmly congratulates Swiss animal protection organisations VIER VOETERS, Stiftung für das Tier im Recht (TIR) - Wir geben Tieren Recht!, Zürcher Tierschutz and Schweizer Tierschutz STS on this result and will continue to support them as the debate moves to the Council of States. Fur is cruel. Despite many of its competitors being fur-free, Woolrich continues to use fur from animals, including foxes and raccoon dogs from Finland and coyotes from North America. This terrible footage is from raccoon dog fur farms in Finland 💔 Animal suffering for fashion is unacceptable - call for a #FurFreeWoolrich now! bit.ly/fur-free-woolrich

Breaking: Bulgaria ends mink fur farming for good 🎉 The Bulgarian Supreme Administrative Court has just announced to uphold the country’s ban on breeding and import of American mink 🚫 This means the last mink fur farm, which closed earlier this year, will never reopen — making Bulgaria entirely fur-free 💚 This is a major victory for animals. Huge congratulations to КАЖИ (CAAI) for their years of dedicated work that made this possible!
