If my AI model allows you to shut down the electricity grid, or build a bioweapon, is that against the law? 🤔 In San Francisco, your neighborhood deli faces far more regulations than OpenAI in the same city, creating AI systems that could affect millions. But in New York, that could be about to change with a new bill: enter, the RAISE Act. The RAISE Act (Responsible AI Safety and Education Act) requires AI companies: 1) Put basic safeguards in place; 2) Report incidents within 72 hours; 3) And, critically, prevents them from releasing AI systems that risk killing more than 100 people or creating more than $1 billion in damage. World's best AI bill? Probably not. Better than nothing? Hell yes. Hochul to sign the RAISE Act ⬇️
