Yesterday, Great British Energy’s CEO Dan McGrail met with Scottish Secretary Douglas Alexander in our Aberdeen headquarters. This was an opportunity to update on the progress GBE has already made and outline our exciting plans for the future. This comes as the UK Government announces £17.3 million for Aberdeen’s Energy Transition Zone (ETZ), driving innovation right at the heart of the renewables revolution. By working with partners including our Aberdeen Taskforce, GBE will complement the work of the ETZ, ensuring that North East Scotland is at the heart of the UK’s energy transition.

More NHS sites – including hospitals and mental health institutions – will see lower bills thanks to Great British Energy’s solar panels. Money saved through the funding will go back to patient care, directly benefitting local communities from the south coast to the North-East and saving a total of up to £65 million on energy bills. Last night, we hosted Great British Energy’s inaugural parliamentary reception at Dover House, led by our CEO Dan McGrail and Chair Juergen Maier CBE FRS FREng. Energy Secretary The Rt Hon Ed Miliband MP spoke to cross-party MPs and key industry stakeholders on GBE's future ambitions, as we drive forward the UK’s energy transition.

Great British Energy is rolling out MORE solar panels, cutting energy costs for more frontline services.     Up to £75 million funding will put energy bill savings back into our schools, hospitals and defence:     👨🏻🏫 50 schools  👩🏾⚕️70 NHS sites including teaching hospitals and mental health and learning disability facilities  🪖military bases  💰 £490m savings over 30 years      The expanded scheme will be worth up to £255 million, supporting around 250 schools, over 270 NHS sites and around 15 military sites across the country.       More homegrown clean power will protect our vital public services, directly benefitting communities.    Read more: https://lnkd.in/efZnNz4x

More schools and hospitals will have their energy bills cut and be able to reallocate funds to provide essential services thanks to our solar roll-out.    It follows the government’s announcement in March to award £180 million of funding for schools and hospitals to install rooftop solar, marking the first major project for Great British Energy - a company owned by the British people, for the British people.    Energy generated by the panels could power classrooms and NHS services with clean, homegrown energy and will see lifetime savings for schools and the NHS of up to £400 million.    Delivering on the Plan for Change to make our clean energy mission benefit communities across the country.    Find out more 👇  https://lnkd.in/eergnAUH
