𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐉𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐜𝐚 & 𝐂𝐮𝐛𝐚 𝐃𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐇𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐞 𝐌𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐚 Our thoughts were with communities in Jamaica, Cuba, and across the Caribbean as Hurricane Melissa unfolded. GEOGLOWS provided real-time streamflow forecasts to regional partners to support monitoring and preparedness. A rapid analysis, led by Dr. Jorge Luis Sánchez and Karina Larco, helped identify rivers along the storm’s track and highlight basins at elevated flood risk. Working alongside Jamaica’s Water Resources Authority (WRA), which was already reviewing GEOGLOWS forecasts in Hydroviewer, priority rivers were confirmed and additional areas for attention were identified. We were relieved to learn our partners in Jamaica were safe as assessments began and field teams mobilized. We remain grateful to collaborate with national and regional institutions during this challenging time, and we will continue supporting partners and sharing insights as they become available. A reminder of why reliable hydrologic forecasting matters. Our thoughts are with those who may be impacted by Hurricane Melissa. Founder/Vision holder @KAJO / Consultant @EuropeanCommission/Copernicus EMS EFAS/GloFAS/GFM and Views expressed my own. 🌊 CopernicusEMS GloFAS estimate of potential Flood Extent from Hurricane Melissa 🌀 Image shows the maximum potential flood extent in affected regions over next 30 days based on the latest GloFAS prediction. Flood defences are not considered, so the extent reflects potential natural flood spread. 🔍 https://lnkd.in/dyQYi7n9
