Lois Melsen, a senior living apartment resident at Good Samaritan Society – Grand Island Village, lived across the street from Stolley Park for many decades. She has many memories of spending time there and riding the train with her family. When her husband passed away, she carried out his wishes and donated memorial funds to help improve the park. After 20 years working in the restaurant business in California, Rosa Avila was at a career crossroads. “I thought something is not right working here,” admits Rosa, now 59. “Maybe I need to find something more. My dream always was to be a CNA (certified nursing assistant)." Today, residents and their families alike sing her praises. "She was the best caregiver you could have ever asked for,” says Marlene Malchert. “She was good to my husband. She made the days easier here.
