  • Meet Ashley Royal Tarrt, BSN, RN, from Health Pavilion Lillington Cancer Center! Ashley has been with the health system for 22 years and works directly with Medical Oncology and Hematology patients administering infusions, injections, and chemotherapy treatments and any other needed treatment in the Cancer Center Outpatient Clinic. “My most favorite part of my job is the close relationships that I develop with my patients and their families,” Ashley says. “I really enjoy laughing and cutting up with my patients. I LOVE that we can still find joy and something to laugh and smile about even though some of them are facing the scariest most difficult days of their lives. All my patients become a part of my family and we go on their treatment journey together.” Ashley grew up on Harnett County, Coats specifically, so it has always been important for her to give back to her community. She says that her co-workers are some of the best people around! “They are my family,” she says. Outside of work, Ashley enjoys decorating – being creative and crafty, making wreaths, flower arrangements, bows, painting furniture. She also LOVES a good NAP! Inside the Cancer Center she takes extreme pride in providing exceptional care for her patients. “It is also very important to me to provide a warm, safe, welcoming environment for our patients,” she says. “We love to see the smiles and excitement on our patients faces when they come into the clinic and the treatment area has been decorated for whatever season it may be. I love that this small act brings such joy to the patients and their families.” Thank you for all you do for your patients, Ashley. We celebrate you during Breast Cancer Awareness Month and all year long!

  • This #FitnessFriday, we're talking healthy fall foods. The healthy foods of fall include nutrient-dense, seasonal vegetables and fruits, such as pumpkins, sweet potatoes, apples, and kale. Eating seasonally can increase the flavor and nutrient content of your meals, as produce is harvested at its peak ripeness. So what should be on your plate this Fall? Winter Squash: Varieties like butternut, acorn, and spaghetti squash are packed with vitamins, fiber, and anti-inflammatory compounds. Sweet Potatoes: High in fiber and vitamins A and C, sweet potatoes provide sustained energy and have anti-inflammatory benefits. Carrots: Full of vitamins C and K, potassium, and antioxidants, carrots are excellent for supporting eye and bone health. Apples: High in fiber and vitamin C, apples can aid digestion and boost the immune system. Cranberries: Rich in antioxidants, cranberries can support a healthy heart and digestive system. Figs: This fruit is a great source of dietary fiber, potassium, and antioxidants. Legumes: Add beans, chickpeas, and lentils to soups and stews for extra fiber and protein.

  • Meet Jacqueline Carty, RTRM, a Mammographer at Cape Fear Valley Hoke Radiology. Jackie has worked for Cape Fear Valley for 23 years. She says it’s her patients that keep her coming back each day. “I am here to help my patients get through a very important exam,” she says, “which for some is very difficult, terrifying, and scary. When I can get my patient relaxed enough to complete the exam and they leave the room smiling I have accomplished my job.” Outside of work, Jackie enjoys going to church and spending time with her family. She lost her husband three years ago and says that now every opportunity she gets to spend with her daughter, Anna, is a precious blessing. To her patients, Jackie is the blessing; they can tell that she truly enjoys coming to work. She recently had someone tell her, “I was so glad when the door open and I saw it was you, because I told them if Ms. Jackie not here, I was not coming back.” Thank you for all you do for your patients, Jackie! October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Ladies, don’t forget to schedule your visit to see Jackie and her co-workers. Schedule your mammogram today!
