  • When we launched our historic joint venture last year, the goal was to unite around shared purpose while honoring the history, culture and mission that made each organization unique. “We wanted to build something together that's the best of both, and in which people could see themselves reflected,” said Dr. Manu Malhotra, chief medical officer, West Region. “We spent a lot of time examining what, exactly, our culture was and what we needed to learn about theirs.” That philosophy guided every major decision from how leadership communicated with physicians and team members to how traditions and values were preserved, including the Catholic identity of the Ascension SE Michigan facilities. Early in the process, our leadership team organized a physician advisory council comprised of leaders from both systems to ensure their voices shaped the direction of the new system. “We wanted to engage people in the problem phase instead of just selling them the solution,” said Dr. Malhotra. “A lot of great ideas came out of this, including how we could better communicate and share information bi-directionally.” The results of this deliberate, people-centered approach has shown that culture isn’t an obstacle in creating a unified system but a foundation for its success. A special on-field recognition during this weekend's Michigan State University homecoming football game celebrated 5 years of our incredible Henry Ford Health + Michigan State University Health Sciences partnership! 💚💙 During the ceremony, senior leaders from both Henry Ford Health and MSU — including our CEO Robert Riney, MSU President Kevin Guskiewicz and Henry Ford + MSU Chief Administrative Officer Teri Grieb, PhD — were presented with the official game ball to commemorate the milestone. “This partnership is about more than collaboration — it’s about changing the game for how we deliver, discover and train the next generation together. The progress we’ve made over these five years shows what’s possible when we truly work as one and we look forward to what’s next,” said Norman Hubbard, president of Henry Ford Health + Michigan State University Health Sciences and MSU’s senior vice president for Health Sciences.

  • We are proud to share that Barry Blackwell, our Manager of Community Relations, has been recognized as a Crain's Detroit Business "40 Under 40" honoree! A native Detroiter, Barry has been working to make a difference in our community from an early age, running for Detroit City Council at 19 and state representative at 21. Joining Henry Ford Health in 2023, Barry was instrumental developing a community benefits agreement as part of our $3 billion Future of Health investment in Detroit's New Center in partnership with Tom Gores and the Detroit Pistons, and Henry Ford Health + Michigan State University Health Sciences. Barry hosted roughly 80 meetings with leaders across the neighborhoods over 8 months. The result is an agreement that includes a career mentorship program for students at Northwestern and University Preparatory Academy high schools, a small-business accelerator, Detroiter-specific job fairs and the expansion of uncompensated care. “One glaring thing (about the agreement) is the support and attention it gives to ensuring young people are involved. They are going to inherit this city and inherit this hospital. I wanted to make sure they see themselves in this project.” Read more about Barry's leadership and impact in Crain's: https://bit.ly/4mSkOXy

  • Henry Ford Hospital recently welcomed back the 1975 graduating class from our Henry Ford School of Nursing and Hygiene for their 50th reunion! 💙 As the 50th class to graduate, this milestone also marked 100 years since the former school’s first graduating class. The nurses toured our advanced intensive care units and the Sladen Library, and visited where they once lived in Clara Ford Pavilion on our Detroit campus. The group especially enjoyed seeing their old mailboxes and reminiscing about the “good old days” while looking through historical photos! We're honored to celebrate this incredible group of nurses and the legacy they represent in our history of care and education.
