Are you required to go into the office? 👍 We want to know what you look forward to when you go to work. In a roundtable for the latest issue of Mix Interiors, HOK's Tim Hatton highlighted that when we work from home, we may miss more than we think , "The amount of information that you learn unconsciously - the conversations that you hear when going through your career, how to deal with a client, how to deal with a difficult situation - you don't get that at home." 🔗 Read the full discussion on pages 108-113, https://lnkd.in/gNYqUv5s

The hits keep coming for HOK’s Gozde Yildirim. The architect based in our Washington, D.C., studio has joined The American Institute of Architects (AIA) “Next to Lead” cohort. In this role, Gozde will work to support diverse women in architecture and remove barriers to AIA leadership positions. The National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) recently profiled Gozde about her career journey from Istanbul to the United States. 🔗 Check out the article here: http://bit.ly/4oF2Nxi

The Rhode Island Public Health Laboratory in Providence is officially open! The 212,000-sq.-ft. building houses the new State Health Laboratories and will soon contain Rhode Island’s first life science incubator and biotechnology space for lease. Like the state lab’s former location, 150 Richmond houses a highly secure Biosafety Level 2 and 3 facility equipped to perform environmental, forensic, chemical and biological testing. The new lab’s larger, modern space and upgraded technology better position the State Health Laboratories to respond quickly to emerging threats and to apply tools such as genome sequencing. The building will also house Ocean State Labs, Rhode Island’s first life science incubator, powered by Portal Innovations with financial support from the RI Life Science Hub, the 195 District and Brown University. Ocean State Labs recently announced the first five startups that will move into the wet-lab incubator when it opens in early 2026. In addition to the State Health Laboratories and incubator, the building will have three floors available for lease by private companies. HOK provided programming, lab planning, architecture, structural engineering and facade consulting for the seven-story building at 150 Richmond, developed by Ancora Legal & General and constructed by Dimeo Construction Company. It is the eighth building completed in the 195 District. 📸 J.Houge / Art In Ruins

For the second consecutive year, LaGuardia Airport has been named Best U.S. Airport by Forbes! 🛫🌟👏 Forbes Travel Guide recently announced its second annual Verified Travel Awards, honoring airlines and airports that deliver a world-class traveler experience. LaGuardia once again topped the Best U.S. Airport category for its “spacious gate areas, state-of-the-art architecture and food from New York culinary institutions.” When Terminal B opened in 2022 at LaGuardia, it transformed the traveler experience at one of the nation’s most prominent airports. Celebrating air travel, the design features grand, light-filled spaces with 60-foot-high ceilings and expansive windows for both arriving and departing passengers. Retail and dining options in the terminal showcase New York favorites, while indoor green spaces with lush landscaping and sculptural benches echo the city’s iconic pocket parks. “Terminal B represents the best of what can happen when design and collaboration elevate public infrastructure,” said Paul Auguste, firmwide director of Aviation + Transportation at HOK. “Working closely with LaGuardia Gateway Partners and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, we created a terminal that captures New York’s grandeur while delivering a calm, effortless journey for travelers. This recognition from Forbes affirms the power of that shared vision.” LaGuardia Airport and Terminal B continue to receive many accolades. HOK has been named to Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies and TIME Magazine’s Most Influential Companies for the design of Terminal B. 🔗 Read more, http://bit.ly/4oF4dYG 📸 Jeff Goldberg / ESTO Photo

We love seeing progress on the Caltech Dr. Allen and Charlotte Ginsburg Center for Quantum Precision Measurement. The project is redefining how architecture supports some of the world’s most sensitive science. “It’s a mixture of the experimental and theoretical, so experimental in the basement labs and then the experimental scientists up in the levels above,” explains Adaeze Cadet, AIA, NOMA, NCARB, LEED BDC, design principal in HOK's Los Angeles studio. “We had to toe that line between innovation and preserving the historical context.” Key takeaways from the design: • The 70,000-sq.-ft. facility consolidates Caltech’s quantum research under one roof for the first time. • 36-inch-thick slab and below-grade labs are engineered for low vibration and temperature variation. • Collaboration drove every phase --> from design-build delivery to custom EMI shielding and vibration mitigation. • The façade’s prism-like fins subtly reference Caltech’s iconic double-slit experiment, blending science and design. Once complete, the Ginsburg Center will be a benchmark in precision architecture, supporting discoveries that explore the very nature of space and time. 🔗 Read more, http://bit.ly/47sfuVf Jessica Ginther
