About us

Idaho Falls Power is a municipal electric utility serving the city of Idaho Falls, Idaho. Since 1900, our mission has been to deliver low-cost electricity to residents and businesses. We have done this by harnessing the power of the Snake River to produce clean, reliable, hydropower. Idaho Falls owns and operates five hydropower plants that deliver about one-third of the city’s electricity needs. In addition to the generation and transmission of electricity to homes and businesses, Idaho Falls Power offers a number of programs and services that benefit customers and the community. This includes the Idaho Falls Fiber Optic Network, which delivers high-speed, affordable, internet capability for homes and businesses.

  • Idaho Falls Power and Fiber had a spooktacular evening on Saturday at the Real Heroes' Trunk-or-Treat hosted by the Idaho Falls Police Department 🚓👮🏼♂️It was such a treat to see so many little ghosts, goblins, and superheroes out having fun (and loading up on candy 🍫🍭🍬). Our team had a great time joining our amazing local first responders — including the Idaho Falls Fire Department, Bonneville County Sheriff's Office and Idaho State Police to provide a safe and spooktacular Halloween experience for families in our community. 🧡🖤 A big thank-you to everyone who stopped by our spider-infested booth and shared in the Halloween spirit with our Community Relations Coordinator, Christopher Jensen, and his Greek God party assistant Nathan Sharp. 🕷️🕸️ Until next Halloween… be safe and stay spooky! 👻🎃🧙🏼♀️🧛🏼♂️ #IFPower #IFFiber #RealHeroesTrunkOrTreat #CommunityPowered #CommunityConnected #CityofIdahoFalls #HappyHalloween #PublicPower

  • We are honored to share that Idaho Falls Power received regional recognition for our communication efforts at the Northwest Public Power Association (NWPPA)'s Northwest Innovations in Communication (NIC) conference this past week in Whitefish, MT. IFP walked away with first place in the photography division and second in the wild card division for the Idaho Falls Power interpretive wayfinding signs located along the Snake River. A big thank you to our talented and dedicated team whose hard work and unique ways of looking at issues helps us connect with and serve our community every day. • New Interactive Hydropower Exhibit Now Open at Heritage Park! 🌊 ⚙️ 💡 We're proud to announce the unveiling of a brand-new interactive hydroelectric exhibit at Heritage Park, developed through a powerful partnership between Idaho Falls Power, Idaho National Laboratory (INL), and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)’s Water Power Technologies Office. Affectionately nicknamed “The Little Lower” by our team, this hands-on display is a scaled model inspired by the historic Old Lower Power Plant—located just across the Snake River from the park. Visitors can now experience the science of hydropower up close by adjusting water flow and observing how it affects energy production. It's a fun, family-friendly way to see renewable energy in action! “We wanted something engaging, educational, and rooted in our city’s legacy,” said Sarah Wheeler, External Affairs Manager for Idaho Falls Power. “Hydropower is a major part of our community’s energy story, and this exhibit helps tell it.” Built and designed by our very own generation superintendent Jason Cooper and design technician Bill McKellip, the project also included a partnership with Brigham Young University - Idaho students, who 3D-printed a replica of the original generator—visible through clear windows in the model powerhouse. Why Heritage Park? The park’s proximity to the Lower Power Plant—first constructed in the 1930s—makes it the perfect place to celebrate our hydropower roots. As City of Idaho Falls Council President Lisa Burtenshaw shared, “It was just a perfect marriage of education, history, and community.” The INL contributed $75,000 in federal funding to help bring this idea to life. “We’re thrilled to help make science accessible and engaging for our community,” said Shannon Bragg-Sitton, Associate Laboratory Director at INL. “This is about connecting innovative energy research to everyday life.” Hydropower generates roughly one-third of Idaho Falls’ local energy needs, and most of the rest comes from hydropower facilities along the Columbia River system. We operate five hydroelectric plants, making clean, renewable energy a cornerstone of our city’s power supply. A huge thank you to all who helped make this exhibit a reality. We invite you to visit Heritage Park and see the new model for yourself—because understanding where our power comes from is just as important as keeping the lights on. #ifpower #communitypowered #hydropower #hydroishere #hydroflowshere #idahofalls #inl #PublicPower

  • 🏆 Big win for Idaho Falls Power! 🏆 Idaho Falls Power Apprentice Lineman, RD Wheeler, took 4th overall and 1st in the REA (rural co-op division) at the 32nd annual Montana Linesman Rodeo in Townsend, Montana this July — standing out among more than 100 apprentice competitors! This demanding competition tests both physical ability and technical skill. RD excelled in all five events: ⚡ Hurt Man Rescue – climbing a pole to safely lower an unresponsive worker ⚡ Speed Climb – scaling up and down with a raw egg in the mouth to prove control ⚡ Insulator Change – replacing a glass insulator high above the ground ⚡ Cat Rescue – carefully retrieving a “cat” from the top of a transformer ⚡ Written Exam – testing knowledge of electrical systems and safety Lineman rodeos are serious business, with stiff competition and opportunities at certain events to qualify for international finals held annually in Kansas. RD’s top-tier performance is a reflection of his dedication and the high standards of our entire team. A lineworker rodeo is the foremost showcase of public power lineworker skill and knowledge – and a unique opportunity for lineworkers to connect with and learn from their community. Journeyman and apprentice lineworkers compete for professional recognition, attend training, and practice essential skills in a safe environment. RD is finishing up year two of his apprenticeship program and will be back in 2026 to compete one last time in the apprenticeship category. 💡 We’re proud to have such professional, high-caliber individuals serving the Idaho Falls community! #IdahoFallsPower #LinemanRodeo #ApprenticeLineman #PublicPower
