Institute for Systems Biology (ISB) reposted this
How to find cutting edge health tech that will be $B businesses in 10 years? Go straight to the source. 🧪👩🔬 Huge congrats to Seattle based Institute for Systems Biology (ISB) on your Nobel Prize! Thank you Erika Kreger for hosting me! There are multiple Women’s Health research initiatives being developed at ISB currently. I got to go back to school for a day and learn about them— science is so cool. Projects include: 📊 Using EHR records & computational models to understand pregnancy outcomes across populations. 🏃♀️Measuring how much faster women’s reproductive systems age vs the rest of the body, leading to prediction models. 🦠 Exploring health effects of a deitary supplement linked to longevity on microbiome. One day soon, we will be able to predict WHEN women will go into menopause and HOW to delay onset. Days like this give me hope to keep going. There are brilliant scientists working to answer our questions. AND THEY ARE WOMEN. Thank you Jennifer Beers Hadlock & Alice Kane for leading the way. 👩🔬

Excellent explainer of the science behind this year's Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. Great work, as always, by the talented Rachel Tompa, PhD. https://lnkd.in/gbem6vKe
It's not every day you get to interview a Nobel Prize winner about her discoveries. This one was extra cool -- Institute for Systems Biology (ISB)'s Mary Brunkow discovered a gene that turns out to be a key reason our immune systems don't (normally) attack our own bodies. Her award-winning work also really speaks to the power of genetics to solve medical mysteries, especially impressive given that it was the mid-1990s, when a lot of genetics was brute force physical mapping. Link in the comments, because I guess that's what we're doing now??

Great educational resource put together by The Nobel Prize. Teachers: Are you looking for a way to teach the science behind the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine? Look no further!
Calling all teachers - teaching material on this year's Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine is ready for use. The 2025 medicine laureates Mary Brunkow, Fred Ramsdell and Shimon Sakaguchi understood how the immune system is kept in check. They made groundbreaking discoveries concerning peripheral immune tolerance that prevents the immune system from harming the body. With the Nobel Prize lesson it’s easy to teach your class about regulatory T cells - the subject of this year's prize.
