About us
The International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (ISSOTL) serves faculty members, staff, and students who care about teaching and learning as serious intellectual work. Through building intellectual and collaborative infrastructure, the Society supports the associational life that fosters scholarly work about teaching and learning. The Society provides this support by: recognizing and encouraging scholarly work on teaching and learning in each discipline, within scholarly societies and across educational levels, promoting cross-disciplinary conversations to create synergy and prompt new lines of inquiry, facilitating the collaboration of scholars in different countries and the flow of new findings and applications across national boundaries, encouraging the integration of discovery, learning, and public engagement, and advocating for support, review, recognition, and appropriate uses of the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Our presentation at ISSOTL: International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning conference (Siobhán Wills and I) in #Christchurch, "Exploring Current Practices in Generative AI for Assessment and Feedback: Insights from a Postcards of Practice Approach", invited participants to engage directly with real educator stories (i.e. the Postcards) capturing how colleagues are experimenting with GenAI in assessment and feedback. It was fantastic to see how engaged the audience was; reflecting, questioning, and connecting their own teaching experiences with the postcards. The conversations highlighted both the opportunities and challenges of integrating GenAI in authentic, ethical, and meaningful ways. A big thank you to everyone who joined the discussion and shared insights on how assessment and feedback are evolving in this era of digital transformation. 🌱 #ISSOTL25 #SoTL #GenAI #Assessment #Feedback #PostcardsOfPractice Michael A. The ISSOTL: International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning 2025 Conference in Ōtautahi has been truly inspiring. Engaging with passionate, like-minded educators and hearing about their research and the meaningful impact their interventions had on student learning has been both stimulating and motivating. The common challenges in higher education feel far less daunting as we face them together as part of the ISSOTL family and wider academic community, through collaboration, experimentation, and debate. As we say in te reo Māori, He waka eke noa (we are all in this together). It was also wonderful to form new friendships with colleagues who share similar goals and vision for SoTL, and prospects for collaboration on pedagogical projects are already on the horizon!
