We’re glad to announce the appointment of Karen Edwards as our new trustee and honor our retiring trustee, Roderick D. Gillum. Edwards brings deep expertise in child-centered innovation and futures that was pursued through a career in the world of media and technology, including stops as the head of worldwide marketing at Yahoo! Inc. and co-founder of Soap AI. Over his board tenure, Gillum provided invaluable counsel and showed steadfast commitment to the children of Detroit and the state of Michigan. He also guided our investment in the Baobá Fund in Brazil and the launch of the WKKF Community Leadership Network. Please join us in congratulating them both. We are deeply saddened by the passing of our friend and partner, Kent Wong. Kent was an internationally respected labor attorney, organizer and advocate for immigrant youth. As a W.K. Kellogg Foundation Fellow and member of the Solidarity Council on Racial Equity, he was a steadfast voice for justice and solidarity. Through his leadership at the UCLA Labor Center, founding of the Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance, and creation of the Dream Resource Center and Dream Summer fellowship, Kent shaped movements for equity and mentored generations of leaders. His life’s work embodied the importance of collective leadership in creating the conditions necessary for all children, families and communities to thrive. We extend heartfelt condolences to his wife, Jai Lee Wong, and their sons, Ryan and Robin. His vision and voice will continue to guide us. https://score.wkkf.org/

Leaders often mistake building high-performing teams with simply hiring the right people. In reality, teams thrive when managed with fairness, consistency and intention every day, starting with how they run meetings. Meetings are where team culture plays out in real time. Fair, consistent meetings create space for every voice to be heard, ideas to be credited and constructive dissent to be welcomed. These everyday actions make a real impact on how teams collaborate and innovate. We’ve partnered with Joan C. Williams and her team at the Equality Action Center | UC Law San Francisco on How Leaders Can Build the Best Teams, a blog series giving leaders practical tools to interrupt bias and unlock their team’s potential. The latest entry explores how everyday management practices shape team culture and performance. From effective meetings to fair work distribution, leaders have the power and responsibility to ensure every team member’s contributions are valued. #BiasInterrupters #ExpandingEquity #WorkplaceEquity
