About us
A lot of companies say they’re “mission-driven.” Our unique corporate structure guarantees that every decision we make upholds our mission: to ensure the internet remains open and accessible. Beholden to neither shareholders nor investors, Mozilla Corporation is wholly owned by the not-for-profit Mozilla Foundation. Along with our communities of 20,000+ contributors and collaborators, Mozilla Corporation’s staff designs, builds, and distributes software that allows people to enjoy the internet on their own terms. Our flagship product — the Firefox browser — has expanded into a family of products that protects users and alerts them of risks, safeguards passwords and provides a secure VPN (with more to come). By maintaining a safe, open internet we're helping humanity, while also helping the individual humans employed here to reach their personal and professional goals. With a relatively small team serving hundreds of millions of people, a culture of exploration, and a commitment to mentorship, opportunities abound to learn and grow at Mozilla.

Big news from the Paris AI Summit: today, ROOST (Robust Open Online Safety Tools) launched as a nonprofit dedicated to making AI safety tools open, accessible, and widely available. Right now, most AI safety tools are locked away—either too expensive, too complex, or too controlled by a handful of big players. ROOST changes that. It’s building open-source, modular safety tools that anyone—startups, nonprofits, researchers—can use to make AI more accountable and responsible. Mozilla helped seed this work, supporting early research at Columbia University that laid the groundwork for ROOST. Now, backed by tech leaders and philanthropies, it’s taking off as an independent effort to build the public infrastructure AI desperately needs—just like what Mozilla, Linux, and Apache did for the internet. This launch comes at the perfect moment. As AI governance takes shape globally, openness isn’t just a nice-to-have—it’s essential. ROOST proves that we don’t have to accept a world where AI safety is controlled by a few. We can build tools that make AI safer, fairer, and open to everyone. Excited to see what’s next. Meet Katya Lainé! 👋 She’s the founder and CEO of TALKR.ai on a mission to make AI more inclusive and accessible. This morning in Paris, she added her voice to our French dataset on Spontaneous Speech, because AI should reflect the people who use it, in every language. And where better to do that than at ✨ AI Action Summit ✨? We’re in Paris celebrating a huge milestone. Common Voice just landed a top 50 spot at the AI Action Summit, proving that AI doesn’t have to be built in silos. It should be built with people, for communities, and by those it impacts the most. This is the future of #AI, and it wouldn’t be possible without you. BIG thanks to the incredible community supporting this work. AI is moving fast, but implementation? Not so much. In the latest edition of the Internet Exchange, we feature Sayash Kapoor on why the gap between AI breakthroughs and real-world adoption is wider than we think.
